Native to the world long before the Tear, orcs had to go through a lot of changes in their culture when Aerion was formed. The loss of their gods and most of their tribe let to the remaining orcs falling back into a more feral lifestyle. Only a small tribe native to the Misty Falls remained true to its roots and shamanistic ways.
The Courtship Of Strength
Every year a 'Festival of Strength' is held inside the tribe, during which certain challenges are faced to display vigor, courage, and intelligence. Only the members which are able to pass all of them are allowed to look for a mate. Most of the time men will let the winning women pick, trusting in their instincts, to later birth a child with the best of chances in life. It is seen as an honor on both sides to be chosen and the so selected partner is treated with the upmost respect. After the selection the 'Trial of Unity' begins. The couple is leaving the tribe for a few months to survive in the wild, seeing if they complete each other. It is believed in orcish culture that only a child of unity is able to succeed in life, and that it is the tribes duty to give every offspring the best start. The couples formed this way are mostly non-romantic, but their bond is not worth any less. They stay together as brothers and sisters in blood, often sharing a mark of their union somewhere on their body forever.One Big Family
Different to the way humans are raising their children, orcs are born into the tribe and cared for by all members equally. After birth the mother's offspring is taken to a nursery and, together with other babies, cared for by several so called 'tribe mothers'. These women are caring for the youngest of their kin, feeding them and making sure they are staying safe and healthy. There is no special bond between the biological parents and their young. It is common that mothers will never be able to identify their own baby. When the young are able to walk and don't require feeding anymore, they are leaving the nursery and join a day care, when for the first time not only women, but also men are prepare the younglings for their life to come. During this time it is common for a child to form a closer bond with one of their tribe brothers or sisters, who will later become their teacher for professions like hunting, herbalism, shamanistic rituals and others. After finishing their training they officially reach adulthood and are allowed to pick their own name which, together with a nickname given by their teacher and the symbol of their tribe, will get tattooed on their back and stay with them for the rest of their lives.Orc Ancestral Traits
