Dryope

Goddess of Nature

It is believed Dryope was the first dryad, creature of wood, though it is generally accepted that her form goes beyond a rooted being. She is often credited with the prospering of soil, trees, and other green-natured things. Dryope birthed the Dryads of the Weather Wood. To further provide for their needs, she created sprites to protect the trees of dryadkind, pixies to nuture their blooms, halflings to prepare the land for their seed, and gnomes to clear & refine stone.

Symbol of Dryope

The tree of life enclosed in a circle.

Followers of Dryope

It is said that dryads, sprites, and pixies are devout followers of the goddess; however, these are largely creatures homed in the Everday. There are regions where their population has been noted in the Material Plane, but most avoid these creatures as they are viewed as wild and ill-tempered.   Outside of wild creatures, with the belief that nature is untamable and unpredictable, few worship Dryope directly. More so, they often worship beings that she created and pray for their influence to sway Dryope's whims.

Dryads of the Weather Wood

Dryope dug her fingers deep into the soil of Aernoch and broke her arm from her body. With the touch of Shae & Lyss the arm rooted and grew into the first great tree of Aernoch. Over time the tree sprouted different blooms for each season, a constant image of adaptation. It could sense the change in the weather and bloom accordingly in preparation. For this, it was called The Weather Wood.
From The Weather Wood, Dryope birthed the first eight dryads. They were Alnus, Betula, Cornus, Drys, Carya, Fraxinus, Acer, and Picea. Together with Dryope, Shae, and Lyss, these dryads spread their seed across Aernoch and made forests and birthed more dryads. The Dryads of the Weather Wood also traveled great distances through rooting portals within The Weather Wood. A sprout of The Weather Wood would grow at the desired location if there wasn't already a weather wood tree present. Eventually, the eight dryads returned to the arm of Dryope and remained there for its protection. Occasionally, they venture back out into the world on Dryope's command, but this rarity is why weather wood trees are very hard to find.
