The Dark Thorn

A feared assassins guild whose reach seems limitless. Very little is known about this guild except that they are very good at what they do. The guild performs its acts in the name of the god of death Bhaal, the Lord of Murder.
Targets are called the accused. This refers to an old belief of followers of Bhaal that someone has stayed beyond death's call, though using the term is more of a gesture of good will toward Bhaal.

Those that are targeted receive a Mercene Bloodrose by some unspecified means. The rose will have a mutation to it that renders its thorns black. Some will have been shaved off. The number of remaining thorns is a code that only those with close ties to the guild know... it signifies which assassin has the contract. The shaved off thorns are typically kept by the assassin, then left on or near the person that they kill.
Individuals that are a part of the guild in some way are considered family, and are given a single amnesty spell scroll. When used, the scroll casts a message to a Sending Stone. They must say, "Mark undone by oath of blood. {The target's name}, protected of the Thorn. From shadow." The receiver of the message will reply, "To shadow." This confirms to the family member that the contract on that individual's life will be null & void, and the individual will forever be considered untouchable by the thorn. The scroll can only be used once.
