Bullywug
Bullywug were created to attend to basic needs of dragons within the marshes and islands. They were food for the Lizardfolk and could easily scout small passages and concealed routes for their overlords. Bullywug have since grown to rule small communities within swamplands and islands, often subjugated by their more powerful neighbours. They are fiercely territorial against Lizardfolk with whom they maintain a generation old rivalry.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Bullywugs were amphibious humanoids with webbed digits that stood between 1.6‒1.8 m weighing 68 to 110 kilograms on average,[8] although they could vary in body type from 4 to 7 feet (1.2 to 2.1 meters) and 100 to 300 pounds (45 to 140 kilograms).
Their hides were smooth and reasonably tough, with mottled coloration ranging from emerald or olive green, yellow, brown, and gray. Bullywug hide was chameleon-like, so if they remained motionless in swampy terrain, they would shift through different hues and shades of their normal color range to match their surroundings. Many Bullywug also carried marks from brands or tattoos that signified their owner that clung to their flesh as a marked dye even if they managed to earn their liberty.
The huge heads of bullywugs resembled those of frogs, with big, bulbous eyes, wide mouths, and long, flicking tongues. Said tongues were barely capable of navigating a stunted variant of Common, and they typically spoke in thick, sloppy accents.
Genetics and Reproduction
Bullywug reproduce through external fertilisation. Female Bullywug secrete eggs once every ten years of their adolescent life varying from 10-50 dependent on how healthy the female is prior to their birthing. As they are released the male Bullywug then fertilises the egg climbing upon the females back to fertilise them as they leave. The eggs, which have a gelatinous quality, then take four months to 'hatch' birthing a tadpole in a colour that sits between the skin tones of the two.
Growth Rate & Stages
Bullywug are born as tadpoles barely twenty centimeters cubed in volume from which they metamorphosis into Bullywug over the course of a year at a rate decided by the amount they are given to eat and exercise. Malnourished tadpoles can grow to be deformed Bullywug not fully achieving their natural form or merely perish unable to adapt to survive.
Ecology and Habitats
Bullywug thrive in swamp and underwater societies preferring proximity to bodies of water where their eggs can hatch and grow. While Bullywug can survive without access to this water it often causes them significant discomfort with dry climates quickly dehydrating and killing the creatures.
