Harpy

A cursed species Harpies are known to reside along coastlines preying on passing sailors or amidst canyons preying on passing caravans and travellers. They are dangerous creatures whose societies are primitive and cruel showing little direction beyond the pursuit of flesh. They construct villages of wood and twigs high above their chosen hunting ground occasionally decorating their oldest hovels with the shiniest treasures from the fallen. 
While many cultures have their own explanations Harpies can be traced back to a group of Elven sailors who were lost in the Drowned Sea. Fearing death they prayed to whatever could hear them for a way to survive but heard nothing back. In hopes of filling the sailors with hope the captain broke into song that echoed through the ocean and caught the attention of the Forgotten One. It gave her the choice of safe return to Liadon, a slow but highly profitable journey to Istria or the power to harness the winds but at the cost of abandoning the voyage entirely. Believing she got the better deal the captain chose command of the winds and was transformed into the first Harpy. In it’s twisted humour the Forgotten One enchanted the Harpies songs such as they could enchant others towards them to survive their new journey adrift in the sea.
