Vanreth

Vanreth is a human kingdom in the east most edge of Aesteria. Built around a culture that focuses on familial power, Vanreth is most well known for its constant civil conflicts. In Vanreth, if a family is able to get the necessary power to overtake the ruler and hold the throne, then they earn it and that is their right. This means scheming and attempting to take the throne isn't just a huge action but part of Vanrethian culture.    Vanreth is ruled by its lords, its houses of power who have often ruled for generations. They control settlements and large pieces of Vanreths land, all under the rule of the Paramount. The Paramount is decided by whichever family controls Anchorpoint. The Paramount helps use their governmental body of choice to decide on law. These laws are to be followed by all in Vanreth, though specific things like the disarmament of houses will often result in a very short holding of Anchorpoint. Each house also makes laws for their own territory but if those ones impede on the ones of the Paramount then there will be repercussions such as increased taxes or sometimes military intervention. Vanreth is ruled by might, and ones strength is incredibly important.    The other things that rules Vanreth are coin and religion. Vanrethian beliefs of power and status are formed in monetary gain to a degree. Though ones name and its deeds are important, so to is how many troops you command and how big your castle is. Additionally, a large portion of Vanreth has belief in the Radiant Citadel, and the worlds largest cathedral to the Citadel and the Bishop are found in Bishome. The church has a large amount of power, and often uses that to maintain its control over pockets of the population.    In order to maintain order, Vanreth has instituted the Whitewatch, a group of warriors trained from birth to supplement the forces of the Paramount. Previously, the push to take the throne would leave a house incredibly weakened and would result in their near instant usurping by another house. The Whitewatch help make sure there is stability, by only allowed to be commanded by the Paramount and their most trusted allies and used to keep control of Vanreth. However, Whitewatch are barred from entering other nations unless working as body guards. The Whitewatch are made up of children, adopted from either orphanages or from houses who willingly hand them over. Only after a decade of training will a member of the Whitewatch actually serve, leading many to be extraordinary warriors well before they see real combat.    Vanreth is a large exporter of ore (iron, coal, and copper) as well as crops (wheat, rye, oats) and livestock (sheep, cows, pigs). They aren't as magically advanced as Ilmora, Requiem, or the Hastlands - but make up for it with surprisingly fantastic smithing. Vanrethian forgework is well known as some of the best around.    Vanreth is defended by the pledges of the houses, who promise to defend Vanreth from invasion - and support the Paramount in war.

Culture

Vanrethian culture is focused upon supporting family and rising to better stations. Family and name are incredibly important. The death and loss of ones family is seen as something to both pity and shame. Vanreth is also very tradition focused. Holidays such as Convergence Day in the winter or Bishops Day are heavily celebrated.
