Tartarus
Geography
From a distance, Tartarus appears to be a flat misty plain dotted by obsidian spires. Above, in the sky, there are three ever-present great dark clouds obscuring large portions of the sky. Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that the spires are not obsidian, but are, in fact, Stygian Glass. At this distance, the corpses of executed prisoners mounted on large wheels, countless in number, become visible. Some of these are hung on the spires, and others are mounted on metal poles. Rain and thunderstorms are common here. This area is known as the Borderland.
Tartarus proper is actually underground, in a gargantuan cavern. The entrance to Tartarus is fortified with a massive wall made of bronze, with a gate made of iron, known as Acheron's Gate. It is guarded by two Hekatonkheires and a legion of Cerberi.
A mix of bioluminescent lichens covers most of Tartarus' ceiling. Different colors of light are more prominent at different times of day:
Natural Resources
The Borderland contains Stygian Glass, and the frequent rain supplies most of Tartarus' water. The ground of the Borderland is not suitable for most plant life.
Tartarus itself contains large amounts of copper and tin. Obviously, stone is also quite plentiful. There are various fungi and lichens in Tartarus. Some of these are edible and provide most of Tartarus' food. Some of them are bioluminescent and are used for lighting in place of the candles and torches that are common elsewhere.
