Oni

Oni are a type of Yokai, a Narakan demon.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Oni are very large humanoids with horned heads, a third eye in their foreheads, and tusks protruding from their mouths. Their skin is quite tough, serving as a natural armor roughly on par with a gambeson. Oni have a strong natural connection to Magic, allowing them to instinctively cast a wide variety of spells.   Oni are also quite resistant to disease.

Biological Traits

Male oni have a single horn in the middle of their heads. Females, known as kijo, have two horns, one on either side.

Genetics and Reproduction

Oni reproduce sexually and are viviparous. Their gestation period is twelve months.

Ecology and Habitats

Oni do best in temperate climates, and as such, mostly live in Naraka.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Oni are omnivorous, and are somewhat adaptable.   Oni are allergic to soybeans, holly, and sardines.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Oni have exceptional eyesight, and are otherwise average.

Civilization and Culture

Common Etiquette Rules

Oni are known for their short tempers, and it is not unheard of for them to resort to violence when they feel insulted.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

It is quite common for oni to work in the Principality of Naraka's law enforcement, and most of those in this profession are oni. It is traditional for oni to serve in law enforcement for a time, typically at least one year, even if they intend to spend most of their life doing something else. When they begin this year, they are traditionally given a kanabo by their parents.   Oni are also not uncommon in the military, but this is not considered to be a tradition.
