The Golden Moor
Geography
Highland area with acidic, high nutrient, and water-logged soils. the Moor's habitats comprise of heath-lands, acid grasslands, rolling hills. The lands are dotted with shrubs like bilberry, grasslands with wavy hair grass, sheep fescue, and mat grass. The Moor is managed by grazing animals or rotational burning. The burning creates a habitat mix which provides heather and juniper shrubs for birds to inhabit and short succulent heathers for them to feed on. Moorlands also have diverse mammals and invertebrates in their expanse.
Fauna & Flora
Heathland plants – including crow berry and wavy hair grass – and bog plants too, notably sphagnum moss and the nodding cottonwool-like heads of common cotton grass. The flowers of bog asphodel, a scatter of yellow stars, can occasionally be seen.
Bracken often covers the moor-edge slopes. Although disliked by farmers and grouse moor managers, it can be a home various birds and a refuge for plants such as chickweed wintergreen, which are otherwise vulnerable to grazing.
Juniper, dwarf cornel, bog rosemary and cloudberry can all be found in the uplands of the moor.
As for wildlife, many species of birds nest, breed and feed on the moors, from red grouse and short-eared owl to skylark and snipe. They feed on the insects, moths and butterflies that make the moors their home, while mice, voles, lizards and other small mammals are prey for the adder.
Natural Resources
Plant life grows in abundance here creating a large surplus of food and flora. Because of the fertile land there is more than enough grass for farmers to have moassive amounts of livestock creating a huge market for oxen,horse,sheep,cattle, and other various livestock.
History
In it's past the moor has been host to not only the country of the golden moor but also many wandering nomads that live off the land itself. The Kings of the moor have always maintained a good relation with these groups. Trading various good with them and allowing them to use land that has not currently been settled on. Early on in the moors history is was settled by Gerald a paladin of Ulldar. Since then the land belongs to the current King and his subjects.
Tourism
Agriculturalists and Farmers from all over Agodale wish to travel here to learn more about the methods used within the moor. Much of the secret lies within the acidic soil itself to assists in growing proper crops.
