The Howling Plains

The Howling Plains stretch from The Razor's Edge all the way out to the western coast where it meets the Sunless Sea. The vast majority of the Howling Plains are barren, dissolute expanse of dirt and dying grass. Sparse vegetation of only the hardiest weeds cling to life in this wasteland. At night, the temperatures can drop to freezing, or below in the winter, but in the summer during the day, the heat can climb to dangerous levels. It is here that the monstrous tribes were driven when Aheila was settled. Orcs, Lizardfolk, Hobgoblins and all sorts of barbarous creatures live here in nomadic tribes, constantly at war with one another. The plains themselves are scattered with ruins that long predate the settling of Aheila and are the source of great mystery.

Fauna & Flora

Not a lot lives in the Howling Plains. There are a few, sturdy weeds and trees that manage to grow in the desolate plains. There are few animals that have survived the conditions the make their homes there, as well - some scorpions and rodents, snakes and beetles, but by and large the lands are not suited for life.

Natural Resources

There are very few natural resources to be found in the Howling Plains. The land is bad for farming and and there is little in the way of trees or mineable land. But the area has always attracted adventurers, in the hopes that somewhere, buried deep in the ruins scattered across the plains, ancient treasure may lie, waiting to be found.

You are looking for a place to camp when you hear the chattering of voices and smell the aroma of cooking meat. As you approach you find a camp of goblins has set up on a hill. They prance around a massive bonfire, chattering amongst themselves excitedly. Around the edges of the hill, three goblins sullenly keep watch.
