Field Ward
This was only made into a formal part of Waterdeep a couple of decades ago. Before that it was the shanty town located between the inner and out northern walls of the city. The inner wall still stands as a both literal and metaphorical border between the new ward and the rest of the city. In fact,. it's still patrolled and the gate guarded.
Being considered part of the city has had both positive and negative effects of the area. They are now taxed to an extent they haven't been, but they also enjoy the benefits of that. And traders have started to see it as a place for commerce rather than just an unpleasant area to travel through when entering or leaving the city via the northern gates.
Demographics
Humans are greatly over-represented compared to other areas of the city. To a lesser extent this is also true for less accepted races, such as half-orcs and tieflings. Dwarves, and elves even more so, are almost nowhere to be seen.
Government
Like all of the city, Field Ward is ruled by the Lords of Waterdeep, thou many suspect that there are no lords from the Ward yet and that would explain its continuing lack of wealth. Of course, one might point out, Dock Ward is arguably even worse off and its one of the oldest parts of the city...
Guilds and Factions
The the Ward is now part of the city, its guilds have the power over those within their purview to some extent. Or at least the guilds think they have. This means that previous coalitions are more or less going extinct, voluntarily or not.
Architecture
Most buildings in Field Ward are of questionable quality, made with cheap materials. Newer ones of slightly higher standards are slowly cropping up throughout, but mostly along the High Road.
