Nome of the Boundary Mists

While the very north-western eaves of the Forest of Ancient Shadows just touch on the outer extent of the Elysian Boundary, in truth only two nomes can claim a substantial border with the Elemental Plane of Earth. One is the Nome of the Waving Blades in the Grass Sea, which is practically an extension of the borderland into the material plane. The other is the Nome of the Boundary Mists, ancestral home not to Genasi of any stripe, but to one of the most ancient Humans civilisations on Aiaos .
Established not long before the rise of the Regime, the Kingdom of Mists was an insular and secretive domain with strong ties only to the Duchy of Ancient Shadows, but they sent a force of rangers to aid the defence of the west, whose prowess became the stuff of legend. The Genasi of the Unity of Jileath pursued an alliance with the Mists for decades, before the entry of the Ancient Shadows into the Federation provided the introduction that was needed.
Even after joining the Federation in CY22.9, the Mistborn remain somewhat aloof, even compared to their eastern neighbours, guarding the secrets of their strength well. They are ruled by the Ring of Mists, a council of nine elders of the various families and tribes of the kingdom, but also have a king who acts as both nomarch and representative of the nome on the twenty-seven. The king is elected every seven years by seven electors, chosen by lot from among the population, who continue to act as Federal electors throughout the king's rein.
