Eyvald Vanarson

Second son of King Vanar Sondell, and current heir of The Valkan Isles, Eyvald Vanarson is the crown prince of his people. Although he lacks the skill of his elder brother Algar Sondell, the strength of his younger brother Grimar the Bear or the finesse of his sister Astrid Sondell, Eyvald is still considered quite the warrior, but that is not what he is famed for. He is known for one thing, which makes his feared by all enemies of Valka. Eyvald is a genius tactician, unrivaled by almost all in The Continent, being the main strategic mind in Valka.

Personal history

Born the Lesser Son

Eyvald was constantly compared to his older brother, Algar, often being told that he was the lesser of the two sons. He was skilled in combat, yet he did not compare to his elder brother, lacking the instinctive nature of the crown prince. Any merits that could possibly be associated with the prince in his early life would often find themselves overshadowed by his older sibling, finding much of his short comings to be pointed out by his father, Vanar. Algar was always encouraging to Eyvald, telling him that he should not follow in his footsteps and find his own way to success.

The Mind for War

When Eyvald was in his early adolescence, shortly after Algar's trial of worth, he found himself taking up an interest in tactics, being presented with a battle map by his father, finding everything easy to look at war with pieces and statistics. Discovering his son's unique understanding, Vanar introduced him to chess to elevate his abilities, even giving him his own trial of worth, having him lead a raid that should have been, statistically speaking, an up hill battle. It was against the gnomes of Concidorne, whose artillery made it impossible to land ashore, but Eyvald found a way around this. 
Although the canons were held in beachside forts, protecting them from rain, a fierce enough storm could prevent them from being fired. Sailing in a storm had already been pondered, only to be shot down as too dangerous an idea, but Eyvald knew this was the only way to take the beach. He studied the storm, creating a device from rope and old sails, known as a sea anchor, which would stabilise the boats at sea, and only after a few mere weeks, the Valkan's took the beach, earning Eyvald the title of 'The Astute'. Ever since them, Eyvald became the main tactician for his father and the Valkan people, with his intelligence often making up for the superior technology of their enemies.
