King Vanar Sondell

The Great Unifier

King of The Valkan Isles as it is known today, and known as the Great Unifier, Vanar Sondell is a ruthless, powerful man, leading the many of Jarls of Valka from their ancestral home in The Cursed Isles to The Continent, where they could take lands to forge a new home. He is feared by everyone, including the Valkans themselves, believing in his power to rule over all others. His unification of all the jarls, and leading of them in their invasion of the Continent, was enough to earn the King the title of The Great Unifier while also making him their monarch all at once.

Personal history

Jarl of Anorholt to King of Valka

Beginning as many Kings would, Vanar was one of the fourteen Jarls of old Valka, back when the Valkan people resided in The Cursed Land. He would have a chance at becoming King after the death of the previous king during a brutal battle against the many Martéans who fled to The Continent, without an heir to his name. Knowing that The Cursed Lands, which was once known as the Twin Isles, would no longer be fit to provide for his people, he made his proclamation as king, despite being fairly young at the time. Other Jarls wanted the same position as king, causing a civil war to break out, which Vanar would eventually win, causing all other Jarls to bow before him. During this time, he would father two of his four children, Algar Sondell and Eyvald Vanarson

Invading the Continent

Taking the long ships, Vanar would lead his people west, attacking the northern shores of The Continent. At first, they found no resistance when landing in the isles that were once The Kingdom of Endara, settling there as their home. He would father his two other children, Grimar the Bear and Astrid Sondell, with him taking Astrid as his huscurl (bodyguard) once she reached adulthood. Finding that his people craved for war, after being stagnant for years following their own civil war, he ordered the raiding of the mainland, becoming a third faction involved in Sahrian War.

Ruling in a New Land

Many things changed for the Valkans when they became residence of The Continent, finding it to be far more ridden with magic than their old home. Being repulsed by magic, but curious about how their enemy would use it, Vanar would burn or capture many skilled in the arcane arts. He placed them in arenas to fight for his people's entertainment, only to have them be liberated and led by his eldest son, Algar. After Algar's departure, Vanar became even more relentless, naming Eyvald as his heir almost immediately, vowing to end those that warped his son's mind, setting his people on a permanent war path.
