Ioan McClymont

The current commander of The Phantom Knights, and a famed knight-errent, Ioan McClymont was once a squire of Alderhardt, only to leave to join the mercenary company, as it would give him far more freedom than he would otherwise. They cared not for his name here, and Ioan's lesser status did not hamper him in his ascension up the ranks, leading him to eventually be chosen as the next leader after the previous leader's death. Under his leadership, The Phantom Knight's purses have grown quite heavy, given how he has put them under the employment of the Sahrian Union in recent years.

Personal history

Once a Lowly Squire

To many's disbelief, Ioan was once but a squire in the grand army of Alderhardt. He doesn't often talk about his time as a squire, but states that his knight did not treat him poorly and taught him a great deal. Although there is no way of proving the former, Ioan's skill in battle is evidence for the latter, which is what allowed him to join The Phantom Knights in the first place after finding the pathway to knighthood far too restricting. He wanted to explore, to see the world, to fight a battle that he actually could care about, even if it was just for money.

Becoming the Commander

What allowed Ioan to join the ranks of The Phantom Knights, other than his talent, was his unorthodox method of combat. For one, he was one of their best riders, making him near impossible to strike, or even catch up to in a skirmish, which allowed him to fight in his unique way, with the use of archery atop horseback. Ioan studied The Old Oshal Empire in order to get recognition in order to become a knight, learning their ways and becoming a skilled horse archer, but his lesser known surname only hindered him there. This was not the case in The Phantom Knights, who cared not for noble titles. They only cared for skill and Ioan had it in droves.
Ioan spent the next two decade with The Phantom Knights, learning leadership as he was promoted, steadily making his way through the ranks as he survived battle after battle. It is said that the life of a Phantom Knight is not a long one, but it is a glorious one, so those that have longer careers tend to be promoted fairly quickly. Ioan was no exception, with him eventually succeeding the last commander through a vote by the other knights. This turned out to be a good move for the mercenary company, as they now battle against The Martéan Empire for the Sahrian Union, which has proved very profitable.
