The Kathoid Forest
At the very base of the Kathoid Range's many mountains lies a temperate forest made from evergreen, pine trees that are constantly wracked with a cold breeze and heavy snow, even in the height of summer. With the north of the mountains facing the coast, with the entrance to the mountain keeps being in that direction, the forest lies to the south, with the paths that are there being entirely covered by the snow. Although it is in dwarf lands, being apart as The Foghorn Hills, very few calls this area their home, especially due to the dwarves choosing to stay within the warmth of their dwarven keeps.
Geography
Much of the actual geography is made up of low lying hills, with the forest itself stretching far across the mountain's base, almost like a thin band. The low land stands just before the tallest mountains, making them seem even more imposing than they already are. On this side of the mountains, there is little, visible dwarven architecture, with them wanting to show off their majesty to the shore, where the weather is clear, though it is almost as cold. Despite this, much of the mountains cannot be seen, as the thick snow often obscures the vision of those that visit.
Ecosystem
With much of the forest being covered in snow throughout the year, the creatures that live there are very much ones the thrive in the cold. Arctic foxes, reindeers, polar bears and arctic hairs are but a few examples of the area's wildlife. Much of the area is known to be largely harmless, with the greatest threats being a few wolves or an occasional bear. The climate is the deadliest factor, with very few fauna surviving it. Other than the evergreen pine trees that make up most of the forest, there are a few snowberry bushes and hardy flowers, such as bee balm.
