Alchemist's Steel

Aluminum, the Secret Metal, Nopeli Steel, or Alchemist's Steel is a lightweight durable metal created by alchemists in Nopum somewhere around 6769sc. The metal's creation is a closely guarded secret among those Nopeli that know the formula for creation. Its hidden forge's location somewhere in the Balinak Range south of New Open. After a century of refinement and use, aluminum has become a mainstay of life in Nopum, used for everything from farming equipment, jewelry, cooking, and even building and ship framework in place of wood when supplies permit. The Nopeli knights wear aluminum armor, which, though not as durable as steel, can withstand hits well enough to make it suitable. The primary desire for aluminum as armor is the fact that the metal is resistant to magic, especially directly targeted magic against the wearer that traditional armor could do little to stop.

Aluminum is rare outside of the Nopum Peninsula, though this is changing as time goes on. Shields of elite warriors made of aluminum have begun appearing on the battlefield in recent years. As have many of the more common use items, though most of these are sold and outrageous prices and more of a luxury item for status rather than utility. The metal has brought Nopum to a new level of wealth and influence in the modern world.
