Wererat
the Scourge of Gonthram
Cunning, deceptive and ruthless, wererats are the one Lycanthrope subspecies that thrived in populations centers. While other Lycanthrope worry about the divide between natural and infected, the wererats could not care less. These little creatures prefer to live in their hybrid form when in their own domains, only using their Human form to move about their city freely. Exposer to moonlight, for the untrained wererat, causing them to involuntarily become a full rat, as such most wererats remain in their lairs and the sewer tunnels at night. The rumors across Gonthram streets are that no real rats lived in the nation, a rat at night is to be avoided in fear of being noticed and targeted by a gang.
Wererat clans infest the sewers of Gonthram's larger cities, controlling the underworld and crime. As the thugs and criminals raise through the ranks of the gangs and thief's guild they have the opportunity to become a wererat when they reach the highest levels of the organization. A 'made man', these wererats hold emense power in their clan and have little fear. The Gonthram wererats are very careful about keeping their presence secret and power level unseen.
Few wererats survive outside of Gonthram. Most of these move to large cities across the globe to establish a thief's guild in a new territory. They find it a struggle to survive, as established city gangs and guilds are ready and willing to put aside rivalries to crush the new threat, especially of the wererat kind. While the greater population of a city are oblivious to the existence of these vile creatures, the street level life is well aware of them, through rumors and encounters, and ready to fight the threat to their tier in society.
Those with the curse of lycanthropy can be cured with a Remove Curse spell. Something that most wererats would even accept.
Player Characters (*only Human can be infected) infected by wererat lycanthropy will gain +1 to their Dexterity and Wisdom score in any form while infected. When infected, players remain naturally in their hybrid form, having to learn from another wererat how to force their body to transform into their original human body. When exposed to any moonlight all wererats will involuntarily assume its full rat form.
