The Stratian Empire

The territory of the Stratian Empire, the land now known as the continent of Stratos, was once the territory of the chromatic dragons, but it is now home to groups of dwarves, elves, genasi, orcs, and dragonborn. It is a collection of independent states known as the Wyrmblessed States which are frequently in conflict with one another, but are ultimately united under the rule of the immortal Emperor Stratos.   The country's terrain is mountainous and difficult, with dense and ancient forests and swamps occupying the valleys between the treacherous mountains, cliffs, and hills.

Structure

Emperor Stratos sits at the top of the hierarchy as the undisputed ruler of the Stratian Empire and supreme commander of its military forces. However, the average citizen knows very little about Stratos, and even fewer have ever beheld their ruler with their own eyes. Instead, the day to day ruling of the country falls to legates appointed by the emperor who act leaders of their respective Wyrmblessed States, and as senators who advise the emperor on military matters and issues that affect the nation as a whole. Beneath each legate is a hierarchy of military ranks who serve as governors and magistrates in the territories that make up each state.

Public Agenda

The Stratian Empire strives to achieve military excellence, and prides itself on having some of the largest and most powerful armies in the world, equipped with the most cutting-edge weaponry.

History

The land now occupied by the Stratian Empire was once the domain of the chromatic dragons. When the metallic dragons brought the gift of magic to the chromatic dragons' slaves, the rebels, who were led by the now legendary Emperor Stratos, did not merely overthrew their oppressors—they broke them. Now, through the use of powerful rites worked at the end of the Age of Tyrants, chromatic dragons are raised and tamed to serve as mounts for the Dracospears. Rare lineages of metallic dragons also linger in the Wyrmblessed States and act as advisers and willing mounts for noble knights.

Territories

The Stratian Empire is comprised of the following eight Wyrmblessed States:
  • Rubrun
  • Niras
  • Elnord
  • Viduun
  • Vahgma
  • Ardalir
  • Daegu
  • Sirgil

Military

The Stratian Empire has the largest military of any nation in Alen'dal, and they also tend to be the best equipped. Military officials who distinguish themselves are appointed as legates and granted rulership over the various Wyrmblessed States within the empire. While not officially part of the military or the government, the Dracospears are highly respected within both spheres, and their opinions on both military and government affairs are often elevated over those of the legates.

Religion

Members of all faiths can be found within the Stratian Empire, but the official clergies of the country are those of Bahamut and Tiamat. Some legends even hold that Emperor Stratos was descended from a union between the two dragon gods.

Foreign Relations

The Stratian Empire has no formal enemies, but relations with the Iyend Republic have been strained since ancient times, and the Halidom of Adeus tends to frown on their policies, depending on which clergy holds control at any given time. The The Kingdom of Freydin and the Elderhaven Reaches have been building trade relations with the Stratian Empire in recent years.   However, the most tense relationship the Stratian Empire has is with the few small territories within the continent that remain independent and refuse to join the empire. While the Stratian Empire certainly has the power to take these lands by force, such a move would not be received well by many of its citizens, and would likely provoke war from other countries such as Adeus and the Iyend Republic.

Agriculture & Industry

The Stratian Empire has many strong industries, but their mining and metal-working industries are particularly prominent. Dwarven companies and families have historically dominated these industries, but it is by no means a monopoly. The Stratian Empire has also forged strong financial connections with Freydin in recent years, taking particular interest in rising tech companies such as Thimblefoot Enterprises. In fact, in addition to their involvement with the Stratian organization S.T.A.R, Thimblefoot Enterprises has even recently invested in building production and research facilities within the Stratian Empire.

Currency

All of Alen'dal's currencies are traded within the Stratian Empire, but the copper, silver, gold, and platinum pieces minted within the empire each have the head of a dragon on one side, and the crest of the empire on the other. The dragons depicted correspond to the metallic dragon of the same name, with the platinum dragon depicting the god Bahamut. As such, it is common that people within the Empire will refer to the coins with terms based on the names of metallic dragons who won great renown during the uprising that led to the founding of the empire: Cups (copper pieces), Argents (silver pieces), Aurums (gold pieces), and Bahamuts (platinum pieces). The church of Bahamut discourages referring to platinum coins as Bahamuts, but despite their best effort it has become a common term.
