USCSS Del Paraiso, Colony Ship

Summary

The USCSS Del Paraiso is a 500 meter G-class colony ship. Its G-Class engine allows for FTL travel via its experimental fusion engine. An auxiliary power system includes solar sail technology that can be re-fashioned into an orbital energy system upon planetary settlement.

Mission

The Del Paraiso's stated mission is threefold:
  1. Discover and explore the alien planet of Enoch III and its planetary neighbors for habitability and development.
  2. Adapt products, constructions, and settlers to local conditions for survivability and long-term habitation.
  3. Thrive on local resources and increase capital assets for settlers and the Company as per the Shareholder Agreement.

Crew & Settlers

The Del Paraiso includes 2,864 colonists in cryosleep with an attachment of three synthetic units (one Walter-3 unit and two Ava-8 units). Landing party and on-ship crew includes 24. All primary crew and nearly all secondary settlers have dual, redundant professional specialties to aid in immediate settlement establishment in the case of complication and incapacitation.   Colonists are drawn from a variety of professional and cultural backgrounds. Backgrounds include:
  • Pioneer: Survival, construction, and agriculturally experienced individuals represents the vanguard of colonial efforts. Their skills are highly valued to aid in rapid founding of first colonies and subsidiary camps, including resource extraction zones.
  • Corporate: Trained leadership to maintain structure, regular reporting, and repayment schedule regarding the Declaration and Deed of the Del Paraiso.
  • Scientific: Professionally trained biologists, hydrologists, geologists, meteorologists, oceanographers, and cartographers. An additional complement of engineers included to coordinate between Scientific and Pioneer backgrounds.
  • Devout: A significant portion of the [BLANK] Temple backed the Del Paraiso, warranting placement aboard the ship. Investment by the Temple has already funded the Devout background colonists, who are not liable for repayment of their associated share, though they may maintain commitment to the Temple itself.
  • Paramilitary: Due to the loss of the USCSS Prometheus and the colony ship, The Covenant, military-trained personnel are standard issue aboard extrasolar vessels. This faction

Mission Funding

The Del Paraiso was predominantly funded by the Company as an "exploratory venture." Such ventures are increasingly common means of funding extrasolar travel reminiscent of venture capitalist "startup" models of the early 20th century. Through screening, training, and interviews, settlers indenture themselves to a repayment structure outlined in their Shareholder Agreement. Settlers then engage in industry and development of their destination, generally with a preference of sale for the funding company. Failure to comply with the terms of the Shareholder Agreement or to meet target deadlines can result in foreclosure on the settlement, resulting in the turnover of the settlement and all property to the parent company.   In the case of the Del Paraiso, @The Temple provided a significant backing to the exploratory venture up front, allowing settlers traveling on behalf of the Temple to bypass their payment agreement and begin accruing wealth immediately. While the contract between The Company and The Temple is undisclosed, it has been leaked that The Temple claimed right of first purchase on incidence of foreclosure.
