Personal history

Childhood

Faolan was born to the Hallester noble family in Revendell. His mother Ceana was only 17 when she had him, they were on the road in Revendell on their way to the capital when she gave birth. Faolan was born on the side of a road, something which revanians call fogarlaus, meaning that they have no home or will never be able to settle anywhere. That and being a bastard would already make the newborn's life a difficult one, but before ever reaching the capital, Faolan would lose his mother to blood loss as the birth was tedious and painful. His father had already left months prior and his identity was unknown to anyone but Ceana. Faolan was taken into court when he made it to Revendell. The king at the time Terrowin III Whitehall felt bad for the child who had been given a bad hand by the gods and shared ancestry with the Blackhall family. Because of it, he tried to make it up to his ancestors by giving the child to his oldest son Davenas as his ward and when he became old enough, squire.   Faolan's childhood in Whitehall Keep with the Whitehall family gave him opportunities he could never have had with his mother, but the lack of a family to truly call his own made him feel alone. His guardian Davenas became a good father figure for him as he had no other children, and Davenas grew fond of Faolan as well, so much in fact that he managed to talk his father into legalizing Faolan as a true son of the Hallester family, giving him his claims and titles back. Faolan also recieved much education and was fascinated by heroes, monsters, adventure and lost civilizations. Stories of Lyseria were his favorites and he dreamed of going there, both to explore and adventure, but also to make a name for himself and to stand out among the other Whitehalls. Faolan also became a great swordsman as he was taught by Davenas and the brother of Terrowin III Cordeyvir Whitehall who was a master swordsman and a legendary fighter who was often viewed as the greatest fighter among all the Whitehalls. Faolan became very fond of the rapier and would train to wield a rapier and a shortsword or dagger at the same time.

Lyseria

When Faolan was 19, he wanted to prove himself to the Whitehall family and make sure his name was not forgotten by history or mocked. He had planned a journey since he was 17, a journey to Lyseria. He was given the money to fund his exploits by Terrowin III and Davenas as both respected his drive for adventure. The journey was long and he was on the ocean for almost a year before making it to the ruins of Lyseria in Mar'Dahar. He had already seen many new cities and some adventure on his journey, but Lyseria was something else entirely. The abandoned ruins, nesting monsters and artifacts of old was all that he had hoped for and more. He would stay for more than two years and bring back tons of artifacts, relics and trinkets from the nation. During his adventures in Lyseria, he also met another adventurer by the name of Daryon Durallon. He was a respected adventurer from Mahlar and he was known for his violent and direct methods. Faolan originally attempted to make friends with the adventurer but he would have none of it as he continued to interfere with Faolan and his crew, even going as far as stealing from them. He would also claim ruins Faolan had found after clearing them out from danger, taking advantage of his weakened state after many of these exploits. The two eventually ended up battling and Faolan barely survived, but lost his right eye in the battle. Faolan only stayed in Lyseria for a few weeks after the battle and then returned to Revendell where he would present his findings to the court and to the king. He offered many items to the king and Davenas as a thanks for the money they had given him. His exploits quickly reached around the continent and he would, for a time, be well respected in the kingdom and lands beyond. His reputation would however be completely turned around within the decade as the queen Arlhane Whitehall would become sick the Lyserian flu only months after his return, which Faolan would be blamed for as he had given her a beautiful necklace from Lyseria which almost everyone at court believed to be the cause, because of this, Terrowin threw Faolan out of Whitehall keep and he was shamed by most of the dynasty. Davenas did try to forgive Faolan in the beginning, but as he saw his mother suffer and eventually die, he too came to blame his adopted son for the death of his mother.

Exploits

Faolan would continue to adventure and explore the world. He for a long time believed that he could fix his reputation and make the people and his family forgive him for what he had done. His exploits in the next decades included killing a young blue dragon by the name of Insyxdor which had terrorized the dwarven kingdom of Danbadir. The battle against the dragon ended with him losing his left ear. Faolan also returned to the ocean where he would actively hunt pirates and sink their ships, he managed to become a very efficient captain and his ship named "The Fogarlaus Maiden '' would become feared by many pirates. He also ended up fighting a kraken while on the ocean, he and his crew managed to slay it and bring its corpse back to Bleakburn where he sold it.

Underdark

When Faolan took a break from the ocean, his journeys brought him deep underground to the underdark. He journeyed to Druunheim where he learnt of many lost drow cities which were populated by monsters and horrors unimaginable. He dedicated years to the underdark, traveling to some of these cities, in one of which he even found a small pod of mindflayers who had nested and was working on an elder brain. He managed to stop this process by killing the mindflayers, something which was very difficult for him, but he was well prepared.

Rematch

After he had been in the dark for some years, he went back to the overworld and traveled back to Mar'Dahar where he went on to track down Daryon Durallon who had taken his eye and challenged him to a rematch. The battle was just as violent as the last time, but Faolan came out victorious and managed to kill Daryon. The two had met a few times since Lyseria, but the tension finally ended as their battle came to a close, twice in fact as Daryon resurrected himself through the use of a Mahlaran resurrection stone. Faolan was badly hurt after the battle, but he had acquired a new weapon as Daryon also used a rapier in combat, and he had more than one of these stones on his body which now would go on to serve Faolan. Only days after his battle with Daryon would the sky turn purple as the purple night washed over the continent. This would be the third time he had to fight Daryon as he was traveling with his corpse back to Mahlar for him to be buried with his people, but this plan would literally bite him back as the purple night caught him off guard and his right arm was bitten by Daryon. He was forced to chop it off to survive, but the journey to safety became the toughest battle of his life.

Kazaktar

Faolan returned home to Revendell after his close encounter in Mar'Dahar, both to rest, but also to have a mechanical arm created for him. He hired the services of a criminal tinkerer known as Alkeeth who would create a most powerful and unique arm for him, an almost pure adamantine advanced prosthetic was created over a year. The arm was also imbued with some of the items he had found on his journey and it would become its own lethal weapon on par with his rapier. His first battle with the new arm was against a very powerful foe. The warlord Kazaktar had been spotted with a very small group of gnolls in the graylands and Faolan believed himself capable of stopping him with a small group of soldiers who had volunteered. They managed to track the warlord and face him, but Faolan's many victories had gotten to his head and he underestimated the gnoll. His entire group of soldiers were slain by Kazaktar and he was spared by him to send a message to the rest of his family, but his left leg was taken. He managed to limp his way home, but was once again greatly shamed by Revendell as his actions had caused the death of nearly a hundred soldiers. This was also when the nickname "The Crow" was given to him as people saw him as a deceitful and prideful man who either left death in his wake or turned up to feast on the benefits of the death of others.

Venthirs

After the The Crimson Mond Slaughter in A4 647, Terrowin III put out a bounty on all venthirs for 10 000 gold. Faolan who now had stopped caring for his own reputation wanted a challenge and the gold. He set out on a journey to track the venthirs and end them. It was a more difficult job than what he originally thought, but he managed to find one venthir over the next year. Faolan managed to kill the venthir who's name was Colton Dread. He learnt much from the items Colton carried and managed to replicate most of them, many which benefited him in battles against other venthirs in the future. Even when Terrowin III died and the bounty for venthirs closed, he continued to hunt them, but never managed to kill another, though he fought the Revanian Wolf at one point, but he managed to get away from Faolan.

Thristvar

Following the The Battle of Razor Hills, Thristvar II Whitehall claimed the throne in his father's stead. Terrowin III and Davenas had both died during the battle. Their death hit Faolan quite hard, even though he believed he had convinced himself that they were no longer his family. Faolan returned to Whitehall keep to greet Thristvar, but his new advisor Ambrose Locket was very suspicious in the eye of Faolan. He questioned his intentions and his background, but was quickly shut down by Thristvar and threatened with execution. Faolan spent the next days trying to understand his motives, but he was caught by Ambrose in the act and Thristvar banished Faolan from his kingdom. Faolan did not want to risk his life and left Revendell, until news of Davenas' return after the death of Thristvar reached his ear and he once again returned.

The Holm

During the coronation of Davenas, Faolan turned up to see his guardian once again, but also to claim his family seat of Black Cliff. Faolan had for a long time wanted to find a place to call his home and his family's old land would fit him well. His home had been taken away from his family after the Black and White war where his family supported the Blackhalls. It was now the home of the Caelan family, but Faolan cared little for them as he meant he would rule the fort better than they could ever. When Faolan pressed his claims, Davenas rejected him, but Faolan was prepared for this and demanded a trial by Holm. Davenas was forced to respect the rules during his first day as king and accepted. The holm meant that a battle would take place to see who was in the right, Faolan fought for himself, but Davenas chose one of the Defenders of Revendell, Yaxora Tayker. Faolan had long prepared to take down any members of the defenders and was well prepared, he was also underestimated in the battle and managed to win with little problem. He spared the defender's life as she yielded to him and he became the legal lord of Black Cliff.
