Cridala Cove

Cridala Cove is the capital of the Briareos Region, a Kada Kingdom located along the west coast of Tel Rialis bordered by the D'Aturan Spine Moutain Range to the east. The city is located in the northern section of the region along the coastline and shares its name with the natural harbor that it is built upon. The majority of people in the region of Briareos live in the capital city of Cridala Cove with a population of 4,500.

History

Cridala Cove is one of the few natural harbors along the coast which resulted in it becoming the biggest and most economically prominent city in Briareos. The city's ports are located along the coastline, while the main town was built on the cliff that sits above the natural harbor. For most of its history, it has relied on trade with both Kaddite and Al Kuliyan Kingdoms, especially after large amounts of Briareos's territory were taken by the Al Kuliyan Kingdom of Doro.

Demographics

Cridala Cove's majority population is Kaddite with several small populations of Al Kuliya worshipers. There is a notable population of Saeno  due to the city's location along the coastline. The Saeno population typically lives and works in the main harbor of the city.

Climate

The climate of Cridala Cove and other areas of Briareos is typically wet, windy, and foggy due to the town's location on the coast. During the summer, temperatures average around 85 degrees (F) during the day. During late fall and winter, temperatures are usually around 45 degrees (F).

Economy & Infrastructure

Most of Cridala Cove's economy relies on the trading port located at the base of the cove on the city's outskirts. Due to the region's focus on terrace farming, Cridala Cove has a large number of notable exports. This includes Izavel Plant  ink, Izavel wool, cashmere, cheese, meat, root vegetables, leafy greens, herbs, gemstones, and crystals. Cridala Cove is home to the country's highest number of crystal mines, and the products of these mines are heavily exported across Tel Rialis for a variety of purposes   Cridala Cove's architecture draws influence from the Kaddite's geometric and angular building style. This allows the city to take full advantage of the prosperous amounts of stone located in Briareos.

Aqueduct System

To support the large amounts of imports and exports that travel throughout the city, a semi-magical aqueduct system was developed to transport goods & water up and down the city. This has proven especially helpful in covering the distance between the harbor, and the main city that overlooks it on the cliffs. The aqueducts run from the base of the cove to the city on a nearby cliff. They span ¼ of a mile between the two locations and utilize magic. Gravity brings goods down to the cove and magic brings the goods back up to the cliff city. Mountainous terrain makes communication difficult. Using the aqueducts information can be sent via carrier ducks. Horses take the information the rest of the way. Some smaller settlements aren’t as connected due to being hard to reach by horseback.

Politics

Despite mostly stable relationships with the Kingdom of Doro , recently elected officials of Cridala Cove have been attempting to expedite the trading process and are pushing for more than equality between the two kingdoms. These officials are focusing on isolationist policies and attempting to localize power to the capital of Cridala Cove despite the negative effects it may have on their people
