South Eridani
Small continent part of the southern arctic cluster. connected to Eridani it's separation is along a larger river system and hilly/ mountainous region. There are two sub-regions the Shaleck Sea region and the Western region. The split is along the river.
Geography
Encompassing the southern pole it is dominated by permafrost marshes, forest and glaciers. The terrien is hilly and molded by extending and retreating glaciation. Huge lakes formed by melting glaciers ebb and flow in huge floods in the spring. Wide rivers carve their way through hills and valley.
Ecosystem
The ecosystem is one of cycles, of deep frozen cold winters that last 10 months out of the 20 month year, short springs and cold summers. Life has adapted to this cycle of freeze thaw and only the strong stay, the rest migrate south.
Localized Phenomena
According to the Goliath tribes the region is prone to violent earthquakes. There are many areas with geysers, lava pits, volcanoes and hot springs.
Fauna & Flora
Conifers and ferns are the primary flora, but alien angiosperms are common as well. The fauna range from large mammals and exothermic dinosaurs, birds and a variety of wildlife. Those that can't migrate are adapted with hibernation.
Natural Resources
Mostly unexplored. The Goliath only collect what they need and are not industrialized, so what is available is not well known. Even the ancients left this area mostly alone.
The Uthash colony is built around a gold and silver mine. Other minerals can be found in the hilly location they settled.
History
Primarily settled by the Goliath species they are nomadic hunter gatherers who have mastered this rough continent and made it their home. few others have ventured this far south to explore, and most are only interested in trading with the Goliath tribes.
350 years ago the Uthash estabished a colony on the far western edge of the continent. There are smaller mining settlements for prospecting.
There are ruins of cities on this continent that don't seem to conform to any culture's normal architecture, but they are not ancient ruins like those found in more established area.
