Chapter 4, Session 7: Fen's No Good Very Bad, Very Big Day

General Summary

She dies, her life is already forfeit... so save yourself my son. Session started with Fen facing a trio of Inquisitors and Erolith. The Inquisitors answered to the name 'Magus' (a skilled spellcaster), 'Ana' (an Inquisitor Analyser capable of reading and mastering the battlefield) and 'Apex' (a martially talented inquisitor dual wielding longswords).    Battle started and, as the rest of the party slept, Fen failed to calm down tensions and so ran upstairs and tried to start shouting for the rest of Persicorum to wake up. Before any could, however, Erolith used the time stop spell to move into Olympia's room that she was sharing with Mimsi and Grendel before he blasted them with a lightning bolt that a conscious Mimsi dodged but badly injured Grendel and Olympia.    This woke up the party and things started to escalate quickly as Mimsi managed to drag a now badly hurt and unconscious Olympia out of the window and into a nearby alleyway to keep her safe from Erolith's relentless assault. Meanwhile, Grendel received the order to make sure they survive and distract the Inquisitor's away from Olympia.    The Inquisitor's meanwhile realised that Fen had a grimoire and expressed that they needed to get hold of the book to give to an individual named Xan Prayerkeep, an Archinquisitor. At this point, Amrys, Kodo and Thordak emerged from their rooms and Amrys asked Fen to run whilst Kodo moved towards Erolith in Olympia and Mimsi's room. Thordak also appeared and tried to intimidate the Inquisitors into defusing tension and agree to have a sit down conversation. Though that proved exceptionally difficult as The Inquisitors outright refused to give Fen, an Aist Mage, Erolith, an Aist Mage and Olympia, a murderer, any chance to escape or build up strength. Though Thordak did stall for a couple of rounds.    During this time, Fen tried to reason with Erolith once more as Grendel used an illusion to make themselves look like Olympia. As Fen appealed to Erolith, the elderly mage apologised for involving the Inquisitors and made Fen invisible whilst instructing his son to run. However, he would not let up on Olympia who was currently being dragged down the alleyway and healed by Mimsi.    Kodo, moments later, entered the room and stunned Erolith (ending his concentration on Invisibility) before dragging the elderly mage to the Inquisitor Magus in order to stall them and help both him and many members of the party from looking like accomplices. The Inquisitor's thanked him as the Magus began to use a cruel spell to paralyse and brutalise Erolith.    At this point, Amrys did his best to distract the Analyser as Grendel was knocked unconscious but Kodo was given permission to tend to them and leave the building. At this time, Thordak revealed where Olympia and Fen were and the Apex was led to Fen before attacking but not doing enough to knock Fen out. Thordak joined afterwards and, despite stinging criticism from Fen, then expressed his sadness at throwing his life away before attacking the Apex... moments later Fen used Dimension door to save both Thordak and himself.    During this time, Amrys used his Gazing Mirror on the Magus and learned a secret that alarmed him and caused him to run away at speed as Kodo was allowed to freely leave.    With the house abandoned, the rest of the party were split at this point, with Olympia and Mimsi slowly moving through alleyways using invisibility to avoid being seen, Fen and Thordak sent out an owl to find Amrys who was on the roof of Erolith's estate eavesdropping and Kodo was moving at speed towards where he'd last seen Mimsi and Olympia.    As Amrys eavesdropped he saw the Inquisitors carry a broken Erolith and express their frustration and need to call an alarm throughout A'mlon . Moments later, Fen's owl picked him up.    Kodo ran into the Masked Inquisitor in the alleyway who expressed that Kodo should leave the city soon as he was wanted and his friends were down the alleyway. As Kodo thanked the masked Mage, they offhandedly and venomously said that Kodo was always going to run... Persicorum were specialists in that.    The party soon worked hard to get out of the city of A'mlon and succeeded by moving through the sewers, guided by a 'Handsome Nothic'. After moving they found themselves on the outskirts, united in person but lacking direction.    They soon settled on moving towards Thordak's hometown of Lakefort for some safe refuge but it was not a pleasant journey as Fen was shattered in more ways than one and taking venomous shots at Thordak and expressing his hatred of The Inquisitors. Kodo was still angrily dismissing Fen and Olympia for their actions and Thordak was at a low ebb whilst Mimsi and Amrys were doing their best to keep the group together.    They soon decided to stop and rest after building some distance between themselves and A'mlon. As they rested, the party completed watches with Grendel. Though on Thordak's watch, the orc moved away from the group to have a moment to himself, reflecting on his failings recently before continuing to walk.
