The Inquisitors
To break down the free mages, to ensure the safety of our homes, to root out the evil growing in the darkest corners... that is our lot and that is our purpose.Inquisitors may be some of the most well trained and militant individuals in Alturis. Expert witch hunters and Aist mage slayers. They are trained to differentiate schools of magic at all times and are rumoured to even be able to smell different spellcasters and even differentiate Aist mages and legal mages. The order are assigned to the Elected Crown and stationed in cities throughout Alturis that they move throughout looking to find and root out Aist mages. In recent times more and more Inquisitors have been moved to fight hostile settlements where many Aist mages find refuge.
- Segment of the oath of The Inquisitors.
Structure
The Inquisitors are a secretive order at heart and, though their highest ranking members answer to the Elected Crown there is known to be the following members:
- Arch Inquisitor: The most successful and feared inquisitors. They are not called on unless necessary and usually deal with the politics and orders from the Elected Crown. There are very few arch inquisitors currently though there has been perceived dissent amongst them as they have so far refused to stamp out a settlement protecting Aist mages.
- Inquisitor-at-arms: The smiths and artificers trained to outfit the Inquisitors with weapons, spells, items and armour. If you want to kill powerful mages rest assured there are few better prepared to outfit you than an inquisitor-at-arms.
- Negotiator: The Inquisitor negotiator is one of the few inquisitors capable of enchantment and dunamancy magic and legally allowed to do so. They deal in questioning prisoners, researching groups in the area and providing intel... many not friendly to the inquisitors have compared them to 'The Judge' lieutenant of the dread king.
- Inquisitive: The sharpest and most cunning inquisitors take on the this role in many cities. Acting as the detectives and investigators of strange events and magic use within their constituencies.
- Inquisitors: The Aist hunters themselves. If the other ranks are built to fulfil a side purpose then these inquisitors have their role, the destruction of threats to Alturis and the Aist mages.
Education
The Inquisitors are trained rigorously in the inquisitor centres in the Elected Crown cities.
They are trained in a variety of martial weaponry, the history of Rasmorae, they research pacts they can make to empower themselves (particularly with the entity known as the lady of pain), they practise all magic including forbidden forms if they show an aptitude for it.
An inquisitor, upon completing their basic training are taken on by a fully qualified Inquisitor and given personal field training in groups of 3... this the team and bond they will form for the rest of their careers.
That is our lot.
