Irken Saesnad

History

Irken Saesnad is perhaps the oldest tradition in Órlekanú. It most likely originated on the mainland, today known as the kingdoms of Dagdír and Gaenel. It was originally nothing more than a small feast to celebrate the end of the year and the beginning of the next. Over the centuries, Irken Saesned has evolved into a more religious event where prayers and rituals are carried out. The feast itself is still the main event with the people from entire towns and villages working together to make the event memorable.

Execution

On the first morning of the year, priests will carry out services and lead prayers to the nine gods, asking for their blessings. Later in the afternoon the grand feast will occur with all the people gathering in the town or village square. The feast will go on well into the late evening. There will be many forms of entertainment such as music, dancing, poetry, gambling, drinking and more prayers.   Each place does things slightly differently but this is the general set up for everyone across all reaches of Órlekanú.

Participants

Everyone takes part in the celebrations. The priests typically lead the morning prayers but anyone who knows the prayers can lead.

Observance

This celebration takes place on the first day of the year.
