Personal history

Childhood (6819 - 6839)

On a large & fortified estate outside the confines of the red brick walls of Brontha, Amosis was born as the only child of the Tohsaka family, who trace their roots back to the very foundation of Brontha, and to the worship of Zeilar prior to the establishment of the Kalorian Rite. With his uncle Belshazzar Tohsaka reigning as Priest King, Amosis' destiny lay with the priesthood almost immediately. His parents prepared him for the clergy and he began his studies at age four, slowly transitioning from living at home to full-time dwelling at Kalor's Court. Eager to foster his success, Amosis' parents used favors and their own influence to ensure their son received the best instructors and the tutelage of influential Fire Keepers.   Amosis was a dilligent child, genuine in his love of the Phoenix Lord. He saw signs of Zeilar's favor or guidance in everyday occurrances around him, watching the movement of birds, the flickering of smoke, even stray comments in the crowd and wondering what Zeilar wanted him to see. Gregarious and outgoing, Amosi' teachers reported back to his family that he held great potential--spiritual AND political.

War (6839-6847)

Starting in his twentieth year, Amosis' fortunes changed with the coming of the Marrowrend Horde of Raveners. Though unable to breach Brontha's walls, the Marrowrenders tore through the surrounding countryside, terrorizing and feasting on the bones of Bronthans and outlying tribes. Without warning, a raiding band struck at the Tohsaka family estate while Amosis was sequestered away in the capital. The estate survived, but Amosis' father suffered grievous injuries. Though swiftly healed, the news of this attack left a severe impact on Amosis, who sought to leave his studies to tend to his family. Amosis' father AND mother alike wrote back instructing him to remain where he was and focus on his own success, for the good of the family lay not in their past, but their future. The letter struck Amosis like a blow from a mace, and he defied their orders to visit for the first time in years.   Upon arrival, Amosis came face to face with a group of Phoenix Knights who'd responded to the attack and driven off the raveners. The squire to their leader, Meresan Ajuraya, caught his eye. He saw in her a strength, confidence and beauty that never even occurred to him in his studies, and the normally eloquent Acolyte stammered in his attempts to talk to her. Though initially irritated with him, the young Phoenix Knight found a depth of compassion and intelligence in the sheltered priest-to-be that held her interest. For the next several years, their courtship took the form of letter writing and occasional visits inside the temple.   As soon as Amosis' parents found out, they contacted the Ajuraya family and began intense negotiations and analysis. Without informing their son, they came to an agreement with Meresan's parents, finding the potential union mutually beneficial. Meresan went on to complete her Ordeals of Knighthood and, thanks in part to her actions against the Marrowrenders, rose rapidly through the ranks of the Phoenix Knights. For his own part, Amosis was anointed a priest of the Kalorian Rite and continued a promising career, focusing his efforts in the intratemple politics and working his way up towards the Priest King's court.   In 6844, Archon Rephidim of Eythgos launched a full-scale invasion. Meresan and Amosis were parted as she took to the front lines with the rest of the Phoenix Knights. Back at home, Amosis joined the retinue of the High Priest -- a separate office than that of the Priest King -- as an advisor and envoy. In this capacity, he collected news of the ravages of war and the plight of those living outside Brontha's walls, and pleaded on their behalf to the marshal and general of Brontha's armies. His reputation as an orator grew, as did his esteem in the eyes of the court.   In 6845, the Phoenix Knights led a contingent of Brontha's armies in a delaying action against overwhelming odds to evacuate a township in Eythgos' path. The Grandmaster of the Phoenix Knights sacrificed his life to hold the line and lay waste to the fiendish vanguard of Eythgos' spear legions, leaving Meresan in charge. Thanks to her emergency leadership, the innocents escaped, and Brontha's forces survived to fight another day. Meresan was summoned back to Brontha where she was elevated to the rank of Grandmaster and promoted to the position of General of the Armies of Brontha.   Knowing that she might follow the Grandmaster's footsteps and never return to the red brick walls of the city, Meresan used her newfound authority to marry Amosis then and there. In the temple of Noon, the families Ajuraya and Tohsaka were united. The couple took the Tohsaka name in honor of Aglham, Nestor's first tutor, and scarcely had the feast completed than Meresan donned her armor and returned to the front lines.

The Second Miracle (6847)

Rephidim's war turned for the worse, and in late 6846 Meresan called for the armies of the Solar City to pull back and take shelter behind the walls. Refugees poured in from farmlands far and wide, all seeking protection. Reunited with Amosis and fearful for the future, Meresan soon found herself with child. Amosis aided the Councilor in handling the influx of Bronthans, Duneriders and wandering tribes, maintaining peace and walking amongst the people blessing them with Zeilar's light.   At the height of summer, Eythgos' armies besieged Brontha itself. As Meresan's pregnancy progressed, she relied more and more on Amosis to assist her in executing the duties of a general. It was the night before Zeilar's Day that Rephidim made his final push, sending forth all his legions, war machines, and summoned fiends to break the back of the Bronthans before dawn. Meresan commanded the defense even as she went into labor. In her place, Amosis went down to the walls, comforting the warriors, healing their wounds, and praying words of hope to bolster their strength.   In the most desperate moment, as slavering devils broke through the defenses and the outer walls of Brontha were breached for the first time in her history, Amosis teetered on the edge of despair. Thinking of his child, his beloved general, his family and all of his people, he placed his fate in the hands of the Sunrider and invoked Zeilar with all his heart.   And his prayer was answered.   At the exact moment his daughter Garnet Tohsaka came into the world, the light of the sun broke over the eastern horizon hours early. It rose up over the earth like flaming wings, spread across the vault of the Firmament. Amosis stood transfixed, for in that moment he became a vessel of the Sunrider. Unbearable light poured from his staff and at his call, the Phoenix descended upon the battlefield. Fiery destruction and radiant wrath poured out on Rephidim's armies. It was the first direct intervention of the Titan since Brontha's foundation. By the time the sun set and the phoenix's cry faded into the desert, Eythgo's legions were left charred and ruined before Brontha's walls, their remnants fleeing heedlessly to the north.

High Priest (6847--6855)

In one day, Amosis went from an up-and-coming Flamefather more involved in Brontha's bueracracy than anything else to a figure of prophetic import. His daughter Garnet Tohsaka, born with the Sign of the Sunrider on her hand and brilliant violet eyes, clearly inherited the power of what all Brontha now called the Second Miracle. Amosis and Meresan found themselves at the center of a new religious fervor, and Amosis was determined to make the most of the opportunity--to make a difference for Brontha's people.   In 6848 the High Priest of Brontha died, and the Fire Keepers of the church anointed Amosis with the ashes from the high priest's pyre. After such a direct sign of divine favor, there was no other obvious choice. All of Brontha whispered, rather loudly, that when his uncle Belshazzar passed through death, Amosis was already chosen to be the next Priest King.   Aside from his new religious duties, much of Amosis' time went to his family. Garnet's upbringing, a priority for him no matter what, was now a matter of the utmost import, and he found no shortage of eager tutors, servants, instructors and staff ready to tend to the Blessed Child's maturation.   With Eythgos defeated and a brief window of peace now opened, Meresan turned her attention to preparing for future wars and building alliances. At the recommendation of the Priest King and the Grand Ambassador, the Tohsakas met with the leaders of the Odinawru tribe -- Duneriders who'd converted to the faith of Zeilar only a few years ago. Their bonds with the outside world and knowledge of the desert were invaluable to Brontha, and so Meresan and Amosis agreed to betroth the Blessed Child Garnet to Pevomm, the son of the Dunerider Enpuco and the Phoenix Knight Sennacherib.

The Shadow Falls (6855)

In Winter of 6855, Amosis brought Garnet on a formal tour of Brontha's outlands. After spending all her life inside the city's walls, it was important for the rest of the people to see this child of prophecy, grow to love her and be prepared for her role in the years to come. Amosis took a contingent of Phoenix Knights and dignitaries and made for the hills north of the city. They stopped at multiple oases and villages, where Amosis shared goods from the capital and blessings from the Sunrider.   As they approached the lands of the Bothotlo dragon tribe -- the final step on their journey -- the encampment was ambushed by Iron Butchers, failed Designer experiments. Set upon in the night, the Phoenix Knights rose to the defense. Yet as Amosis rose to his daughter's defense, a terrible emptiness ripped through the camp. All within found themselves cut off from the power of Zeilar. Their spells and gifts failed them. Nobody in the caravan returned.   With the death of Amosis, and disappearance of the Blessed Child, the people of Brontha entered a shocked period of mourning. The light of hope kindled years ago now seemed almost cruel. They prayed even then for the Blessed Child's return, and when Belshazzar Tohsaka died shortly afterwaters, it was Pothinus who rose to take the Priest King's throne.
