Personal history
Forgotten are the origins of Ashardalon, the Heart Eater, Dragon of the World Before, Guardian of the First Gate. Lost to the Time Before the Dawn are the depredations of Ashardalon, called Soul Drinker, Demon Hearted, and Dread Wyrm. Not even the Sovereigns remember the crimes for which Ashardalon was imprisoned inside The Silent City, sealed within the First Gate.
It is known that Ashardalon hails from The World Before, and at Anacra's Dawn he was already locked beyond the confines of the world. Like the other Dragons of the World Before, he was unleashed for a time by the Nameless God to lay waste to the Infernal Legions consuming the Dawn World. When the Fiends were routed, Ashardalon and the other six Dragons were returned to their prison.
In the silence of the First Gate, the dragon watched, and waited.
Wanderstave
Millennia passed. Mortals spread throughout the Four Kingdoms. Uzhul returned, slew the Sovereign of Stone, ushering in a new era of demonic rule. All this time, the Silent City stood, waiting to be discovered. Waiting for its hour. But long before the appointed time, a stranger came by way of Dreaming. Ashardalon stirred in his sleepless slumber, for footsteps echoed in the streets of the Silent City. A mortal walked the forbidden ways. A sorcerer. Tiberius Wanderstave stood before the First Gate, a shifting phantasm of dreams. Driven mad by the mists of the Mordayn Flower, Wanderstave muttered and mumbled, staring into the gate, and Ashardalon stared back. At last, they spoke. What words they exchanged are lost, but in the end Tiberius spoke a word that had not been uttered since the Fall of Luminias: Ashardalon's name. The ancient dragon whispered secrets of magic lost to the World Before, the spell that Tiberius would use to sever Chotan's astral self from her physical body. But then, the sorcerer left. Despite all his cunning, riddles and trickery, the Dragon remained a prisoner of the Silent City. So, he watched. He waited. For one whose memory stretches before the dawn, the life of one mortal sorcerer is no time to wait at all.The Sorcerer Returns
The Sorcerer returned, wracked by the talons of time. He brought his grandson. Once again he stood before the First Gate of The Silent City , struggling to find the word that unlocked the Dragon's knowledge long ago. This time, the Dragon was ready. Bit by bit he stretched his wings, tested his claws, drew breath. He began to shuffle off the dust of ages, testing the limits of his prison. Soon, his image strode forth from the gate, challenging the sorcerer. Last time they clashed with words; this time, they battled with spell, steel, and will. Try as he might, Tiberius' magic was not what it had been, and his grandson could not muster the faith in himself to stand against the terrible dragon. It was only when Ashardalon stood poised to consume their astral forms that the name returned, and Marcus Tiberius Wanderstave spoke it aloud. Ashardalon roared as the First Gate closed upon him once more, and the mortals slipped through his grasp. But it was not to be.Age of Ashardalon
At the heart of Dotain's Rock, the family Wanderstave faced a desperate, final struggle. The Heart of the Mountain grew unstable, threatening to rupture and spread Wild Magic across the Northern Kingdoms . Chotan's faithful stood against them, eager to summon the warlord back to the Mortal World using the Blood of Wanderstave as a vessel. Few truly know what happened, but Tiberius Wanderstave, and his enemies, vanished in a thunderous burst. The Gates of the Silent City swung open. And the Dragon of the World Before emerged into the world, scarred by the power of chaos, but free once more. Since then, Ashardalon's wings have darkened the fields and farms of Vercinget . The people of the Northern Kingdoms have no concept what lies in store for them, for the secrets of Ashardalon's ancient past are lost to another world. The Heart Eater is loosed, and all shall burn.Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Above all else, Ashardalon values his own life. He has survived the scarring of his heart, the Bastion of Broken Souls, the wrath of the Ancestor of Dydd, the judgement of the Old Gods, and the wrath of Tiberius Wanderstave. Ashardalon will destroy every kingdom in his wake if it will give him more time.
Wealth & Financial state
Ashardalon arrived in this world with no treasure or hoard whatsoever. No doubt many of his recent attacks on the Northern Kingdoms are to accumulate the wealth every dragon believes they are owed.
