Personal history
The Nameless God said to the Dawn World, "I release you, be free," and Life unbound came forth. Water woke up, and became Li-Ban. With the other Sovereigns, They brought shape to what became the Dawn World.
Li-Ban and Vindur shared much of the labor of shaping the world together, for the sky and the sea mingle and mix and churn each other. So did the two give rise to a daughter, Realta, just as darkness fell upon the Dawn.
When the city of Luminias fell to the depredations of Uzhul and his Infernal Legions, the four sovereigns stepped forth to divide the world. Li-Ban claimed the Endless Ocean and the Grey Seas, denying them to mortals. There, the great sovereign built palaces of coral and pearl, but stay nowhere long, flowing with the currents and suffusing all the world.
The Death of Erecura
Li-Ban was content to roam the great waters of the world, watching from the seas as mortals began to build along the shores. Sometimes They flowed upstream and into vast lakes, amused as the first crude boats took shape and the mortals tried to cross the tempestuous, unknowable waters. But such things were not Li-Ban's concerns. The depths held wonders and challenges that were far more interesting. Then, Li-Ban's sister, Erecura, died, stabbed through the heart by a blade forged of her own blood. It was the cunning of Uzhul and the craft of the Fire Giants that slew the Sovereign of Earth, and cast the Four Kingdoms into chaos. Fiends returned to the world in force, swarming over the land, consuming all in their path, devouring and subduing the civilizations of mortal kind. Li-Ban rose in wrath against Their sister's slayers, and all the waters of the world rejected the Infernal empires now rising. Li-Ban vowed to forbid them passage and churned the magic of the seas and lakes, rendering them impassable. Ships that sailed out of sight of land lost their way in mystical fog, carried on strange tides to otherworldly shores, never to be seen again. After the Demonic Imperium
Spoilers--Post Ioth Academy Even when Li-Ban's nephew, the titan Ramius, dragged the fiends screaming into the underworld, They did not remove the enchantment of the seas. Other threats could still remain, and as it came to pass, the Sovereign of the Seas was right. The One Flesh
With Erecura's death, the Firmament sealing Anacra from the mysteries of the Hungry Dark weakened. The smell of Erecura's blood wafted beyond the Four Kingdoms, and drew a slavering, thirsty monstrocity. It drifted towards the world and plummeted from the sky, a titanic mass of proboscises, beaks, multifaceted eyes and translucent wings-- The One Flesh. All creation looked on in horror as it descended towards the Mortal World, eager to feast and grow fat upon the blood of the Sovereign of Stone. Then Li-Ban reached their powerful arms, like two great tsunamis, across the Mortal World and ripped a massive piece of earth from its very roots. They waited atop the waves as the One Flesh grew closer, its many mouths sucking at the air, ready to feast. When its shadow fell over Li-Ban, the sovereign heaved the torn piece of earth with all Their might and smote the One Flesh from the air. The resounding crack echoed across all Four Kingdoms, and as the One Flesh burst and cracked from the impact Li-Ban crushed it into the forbidden waters of the Endless Ocean, smothering it beneath the Torn Earth. So the Fifth Continent, Tamreon, came to be. It is said that a piece of the Torn Earth fell across the Endless Ocean and landed in the far lands of the West, forming a new island transplanted from the East. But though the One Flesh was squashed beneath the roots of the new continent, still it writhed and struggled. Pieces of its shattered flesh wriggled free and took on new life, aberrations that infest the Mortal World to this very day. And so Li-Ban descended into the roots of Tamreon to seize the One Flesh, and still the land trembles with their conflict in the deep places of the sea.
