Outpost X-5, also known as the
Torus Gateway due to its superficial resemblance to a sci-fi ring gateway, is a strange alien structure at the very rim of the Elpis system. If activated, it is believed to generate a wormhole powerful enough to propel a vessel to another, unknown star system. Much of the station is decrepit, with all information and research discovered in the wreck carefully classified by the
Mewei Domain and the
Arkblazer Order.
Since its accidental discovery by Krax Jentrax in the 54th Cycle, the alien structure has been the focus of much speculation. However, access is strictly restricted and intruders are typically intercepted or simply shot on sight. Near the Outpost, the Arkblazer vessel
AKV Duty of Dust provides much support and acts as a home for any specialist Seeker.
Outpost X-5 itself is a small wing of the alien structure, carefully isolated from the rest of it and manned by a small joint Mewei / Arkblazer fleet. Despite the mystery surrounding it, to be assigned on guard duty to the outpost is considered a form of punishment due to the sheer boredom experienced in the remote depths of space with no good communications to the rest of the system. The most exciting to ever happen here, barring a change of shift, is the odd and rare occasion that scientists visit the Outpost; even so, they typically do not talk to the guards, for all research here is strictly classified. The centre of the ring has remained inert ever since the gateway's discovery, with no sign of a change anytime soon.
