Circinus Stream
The Circinus Stream is an irregular dwarf galaxy that neighbours the Pyxis Globula. It is a starburst galaxy, covered in supernovae, stellar nurseries and nebulae. Its irregular shape, and the two supermassive black holes on a collision course at the centre of the Stream, suggest that this galaxy is in fact the result of a merger between two smaller stellar clusters. The Stream is being extensively scanned, though any star system beyond Tau Elpis is currently out of reach of the colonists' limited Dive Drive technology.
Scientists and astronomers often split the Stream into two distinct zones. The nearer half is the Core Stream, where Tau Elpis sits. Trailing stars are referred to as the Rift-Tail, and are of particular interest due to the many irregularities in background radiation observed there.
Far before the Great Jump - indeed far before space-flight - the Stream, as a bright object in the night sky, had figured in the fairytales and mythologies of the Boshaari and Hhrot peoples. Because of its small distance to the war-torn Globula, the Stream was the ultimate destination of the Great Jump. The Embassy Ark was sent on a one-way trip to the rim of the Stream with hopes to find habitable worlds and shelter after it was revealed that an abnormally high quantity of life-bearing worlds could be found there.
Because of the limited FTL technology available to the Ark colonists of Tau Elpis, all exploration of the Stream has so far been achieved using long-range unmanned probes. Nonetheless, the presence of alien civilizations is considered a certainty. Ruins and archives litter worlds across Tau Elpis, describing at least three extent sentient species : the Ton'keena who left their colonies behind, as well as the Tiefling and Aleeri people. There are mentions of empires : that of the aforementionned species, as well as a poorly documanted Kyalan Empire, which seem to have also been populated by them. Such species , should they follow conventional understanding of what makes a civilization, are judged to have reached somewhere between Stage I and Stage II on the K scale. Nonetheless, no first contact has been forthcoming.
At the rim of the Elpis system, Outpost X-5 is thought to be a gateway to other worlds across the Core Stream, perhaps suggesting that hyperlanes of some sort criss-cross the galaxy. However, if anything is known about this alien station, is it jealously kept by the researchers of the Mewei Domain.
