Origin
Two of the largest ports in Alcantra - Gantua and the city of Khentika - were founded as
Jomruan colonies in the early centuries of the first coastal settlements. The third - Bael's Harbor - was originally part of the
Kingdom of Baerwen but was conquerred by Alcantra just before the founding of the
High Kingdom of Nymera in 2176 B.C.
Within a generation of being founded, these southern
Jomruan colonies had declared their independence, allying themselves with nomadic tirbes from the interior to found the kingdom of Alcantra.
However, even today the Alcantrans are divided. The people of the interior feel an affinity with the people of
Baerwen to the south. They often feel a special loyalty to the
Matriarch of Callan who they see as the embodiment of their old ways.
The people of the coast - and many cities - feel tied more closely with the kingdom of
Jomru to the north, with it's old, cosmopolitan culture.
