Kingdom of Baerwen
Origin
Baerwen was thinly settled by traditional nomadics caravans until later than the other Nymeran kingdoms. It was only in the period of 2500 to 2000 B.C. that the Baerwenish caravans began expanding trading posts and fishing camps to more permanent settlements. While now a kingdom, at its founding circa 2350 BC Baerwen was a Matriarchy. The Baerwenish caravans had been governed by women for as long as anyone remembered and they continued that tradition when they formed their own nation. The first Matriarch of Baerwen was Rhonna Gesrenec. For almost two hundred years, each Matriarch was elected by a conclave of Baerwenish clan leaders. Matriarchs ruled Baerwen until the founding of the High Kingdom of Nymera in 2176 B.C. At that time they crowned the first Queen of Baerwen to keep their ruler's title in line with those of the other Nymeran kingdoms. The Matriarchy faded soon after, with the exception of the Matriarchy of Callan, a province of Baerwen. In the lead up to the founding of the High Kingdom of Nymera in 2176 B.C., Baerwen was largely aloof to the pan-Nymeran sentiment sweeping the other coastal kingdoms. They happily joined when the option presented itself, however.About
Baerwen is one of the few places with diplomatic relations with the aerial kingdom of Qurhat in the mountains to the south. As the southernmost point on the Indras Sea, the City of Port Maraan is an important waypoint for the trade routes around Qurhat to points west along the southern coast. The Matriarch of Callan is famous throughout the caishenic kingdoms of the South. She is famously friends with the Hierophant of Tvor in the Nymeran kingdom of Dvin as well as the Witch Queen of Astrin in the Nymeran kingdom of Kingdom of Baijan.Provinces
