Vampires
Tamerea, Vampires as a folk are still young enough that there are many individuals still alive that remember the creation of their kind. As a result they are still trying to find their place in the world, torn between their desire to return to the trees with their Elven kind and their need to stay close to their Humans prey.
Due to being descended from Elves, some folks call Vampires "Blood Elves". However Elves hate this name, preferring to distance themselves from their cousins.
One of the newest arrivals to Basic Information
Anatomy
At first glance Vampires can be very difficult to tell apart from other elves, and unless one knows exactly what to look for they can easily pass for an average Elf. A few characteristics that point to them being otherwise is a pair of rather sharp canine teeth, sharp nails, and an unusual eye color. They also tend to be a bit more muscular due to the need to physically restrain prey.
Biological Traits
Magic
Due to being Elves, Vampires are very magically gifted.
Skin Sensitivity
Vampires tend to get sunburned very easily, so they try to avoid direct sunlight the best that they can.
Venom
Vampire's success can be attributed to the venom they produce. Capable of producing three different kinds of venom, the one that they most commonly use is their 'Paralyze' venom, which temporarily paralyzes their human prey and causes memory loss of the time around the bite. Their 'Pain Killer' venom can be used to dull any pain associated with a bite and help heal wounds. Often used on their prey, this venom can become addictive if an individual is bitten multiple times and given large doses within a short period of time. The final venom that vampires can produce is their 'Pain' venom. Reserved for threats and enemies, this venom causes intense pain.
Genetics and Reproduction
Hybrids
Dhampire Vampires can produce hybrids known as Dhampires, with Humans, but this is so rare that many believe it to be impossible.Ecology and Habitats
Vampires can be found anywhere that there are Humans, though unlike their prey, they tend to be a lot more nocturnal.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Vampires are completely dependent on human blood in order to survive. Knowing how dangerous their prey is, Vampire try to feed in secret, healing the bite wound after feeding.
Additional Information
Social Structure
After being shunned by their Elven kin and fear from the Humans that they now depended on for substance, Vampires have become very clan focused, with their entire society and politics revolving around them.
Facial characteristics
Vampires have very similar facial features to other elves with a few exceptions. While they still have the elven pointed ears, their incision teeth have become razor sharp and their eye color is either red or gold.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Excellent night vision.
Civilization and Culture
Major Organizations
Some individuals have joined up with the 'Descendents' in attempt to regain Elven approval.
Courtship Ideals
After spending so much time around Humans, Vampires have begun to pick up some of their behaviors and traditions. One of these includes giving gems and jewelry to a spouse or potential love interest as a token of affection.
Culture and Cultural Heritage
After being rejected by their Elven kin and forced to live near humans to ensure that they are able to feed, they have begun to integrate many aspects of Human culture into their own.
Currency
At the moment Vampires do not have their own kind of currency, instead choosing to use one of the Human currencies. This makes it easier for them to lure or bribe a human into tolerating a bite.
Housing
The majority of Vampires have taken over an abandoned castle and several 'Ancient Ones' ruin as their territory
While most Vampires choose to stay close to the relative safety of the clans, some have chosen to wander, traveling from one Human settlement to the next.
History
The original Vampires were once elves that were forced from the trees and taken as slaves. Terrified by leaving the safety of the trees, they were treated poorly, and often punished for freezing up out of fear.
The properties where they were kept was on top of a 'Magic Well'. The abundance of magic reacted wildly to their pain and caused them to change. Eventually they managed to rebel against their owners and escape.
Once free they tried to return to their Elven home, however the Elves rejected them.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Elves
When the Vampires tried to return to their tree top home after being enslaved their Elven communities were appalled by what they had become. Believing them to have been corrupted by the outside world they rejected the Vampires, and cast them back to the forest floor.
As Elves have begun to leave the safety of the trees to interact with other folk across Tamerea their views on Vampires have not changed. In fact they have only been enforced by propaganda by elders using them as a boogeyman to maintain control over those that travel away from their tree top domain.
Some of this propaganda includes a wide range of things, such as claiming that Vampires hate garlic, to claiming that Vampires are the undead in order to justify killing them.
Humans
With Vampires being completely dependent on Human blood for substance, the two folk have a very strained relationship. Most Vampires try to keep their existence a secret, feeding from the shadows and erasing any signs of a feeding, leaving the humans feeling slightly woozy but none the wiser.
Some Vampires have a select few Humans that they've chosen to feed on, offering coin, goods, or other services in exchange for their Human tolerating feeding bites.
Rarely a Vampire will give a human several bites contain large amounts of 'Pain Killer Venom', causing them to become addicted to the venom. These Humans are known as Vampiric Thralls, and will typically do anything to get their next fix of venom, usually involving the Vampire feeding from them.
