The Reach
Northernmost city on the Coastal Trail, it is a hillocky glacial flat with moraine and small streams through the area. More a cluster of small groups, naturally walled in by the surrounding sharp hills and canyons.
Demographics
95% human, 5% mostly dwarven with a gnome, halfling, or rare elf. The poor mine, trap, and grow food while the rich manage the trade, govern, and exploit the poor.
Government
Militant patriarchy with a loose clan structure and the ruling family is the Barhan (bear-haine) clan. The current Ba'al is Poul Barhan, a powerful man in his early fifties. Poul oversees a council of warrior males from the collected tribes. This eclectic tribal input has made the laws nonsensical, complicated, and extensive.
Defences
On a moraine flat that is walled by sharp mountainous terrain on three sides, the Reach can only be rapidly accessed from the south. A warrior caste, known as the Rekkr and consisting of male warriors from all the tribes acts as the standing army and regularly patrol the area keeping the peace.
Assets
The area is known for its ample gold and silver mines. Also, the locals, now a mixture of Kith-El and mountain folk, have created a hybrid cuisine that is famous and unique along the east coast.
History
The area is originally known as Ravehd's Reach from the Kith-El expedition into the area. Some Kith-El settled in the area, mingled with the local mountain people, and prospered. King Blackthorn, known as the Icebringer, brought part of his army around the north arm of the Cerulean Sea and attacked from the north. The people stopped him from progressing farther south, so the area is also known as Icebringer's Reach. Now, it is just commonly known as The Reach. The area was hit hard by snowmelt flooding in 49 PH and half of the population was destroyed. The population has not recovered from this event.
