The history of the nation now known as the New Federation, previously called the Federation of Vay.
An alliance between a few desert-dwelling tribes in what is now the Federation of Vay commences the reign of the empire known as the Ceth Tseket. Over the next 400 years, the Ceth Tseket goes on to conquer a vast swath of Aotra's northern hemisphere
An era of decadence following the empire of the Ceth Tseket making contact with the Otherworld ends in a systematic, brutal massacre of the Tseketon people by the Other. Millions are killed, and the empire falls.
Following a period of persecution in Norsivar, a group of Dimira people migrate southeast to the present-day Federation, ultimately settling in the region around present-day Cethandir, where they intermingled with the indigenous Aundirian people, distant descendents of the Ceth Tseket.
Following another period of persecution in Norsivar, another large group of Dimira people leave Norsivar for the (present-day) Federation, this time settling in present-day Caelus.
Unrest in Norsivar leads a large majority of the remaining Norsivaran Dimira population to migrate to the (present-day) Federation. Some settle in present-day Auria, some continue to present-day Vay Proper, and some continue westward to Caelus. This migration event brought the largest group of Dimira people to the Federation of Vay and is considered the defining moment at which the region became predominantly populated by Dimira.
The city of Vay Proper, then known only as Vay, is founded by a group of upper-class Aurians who migrated west after severe social unrest led to a violent coup in Auria.
The city of Cethandir is founded after a population of Dimira and Aundirian people—distant descendents of the the Ceth Tseket begin a project to consolidate several adjacent towns and villages into a single urban center.
The outbreak of a brutal war between the Sarlani and Elasi people in neighboring (present-day) Sarland provokes defensive militarization in Auria, Cethandir, and Vay Proper.
Motivated largely by turmoil in neighboring (present-day) Sarland, Lord Cassius Bellator ce'Vay, an influential Vayan politician, proposed a treaty between Auria, Cethandir, and Vay in early 33 YW. Caelus joins the treaty shortly before ratification. This established the Federation of Vay, allowing for significant self-governance by the cities while ensuring diplomatic and military unity. The Federation of Vay, at the time of ratification, consists of less than 50% of the land it would later come to possess.
The treaty known as the Circle of Nine is signed, establishing world peace on Aotra. Five pre-existing nations are members of the treaty: Elasiril, the Federation of Vay, Lar Aslaki, Norsivar, and Solisvar. Another four nations are created by the treaty: Ceryx, Kassaan, Oristhane (originally founded under the name Lischia), and Sarland.
A whistleblower (believed by many to be Leto Melite) reveals that several senior clerks to the Grand Court have been accepting bribes in exchange for expedited handling of judicial matters, triggering a crisis of distrust in the Federation's legal system.
The army of Toluca forces the First Caelan Legion to surrender after its commander, Legate Marius Bérenger, is killed in battle near the Wildwood Site in Caelus. The rest of Caelan I retreats, but later defects to New Xalotl.
After more than three years with no head of state following the death of the previous Magelord, Madam Astoria Nethrani ce'Vay, the Grand Court finally confirms that Novia Celsa will become the next Magelord of Vay.
The God Machine lands in the middle of the ruins of Vay Proper, destroying what remains of the city, apparently at least partially repairing the Myth, and releasing countless ensouled automatons.
Expecting no sufficiently-quick response from the brand-new Vayan administration to the ongoing humanitarian crises unfolding post-Severing, the government of Caelus accepts an offer by Valissia ce'Xalotl to join her unrecognized separatist state, New Xalotl.
Magelord Novia Celsa ce'Vay reveals vast amounts of documentation of human rights abuses by the Federal government, and she announces her intention to restructure the government to prevent continuation of these abuses.
Magelord Novia Celsa begins a radical restructuring of the Federal government that involves establishing a committee with representatives from the major demographic, cultural, and interest groups in the Federation. The decision-making power once held by the Magelord and the Consuls is now primarily in the hands of this committee. The Magelord also announces plans intended to establish equality among citizens and to cease all violation of human rights by the Federal government and its departments.
The Tetrarchy of Cethandir, a highly Federalist institution, attempts to suppress information on the restructuring of the Federal government under the new Magelord, Madam Novia Celsa ce'Vay. Upon the discovery of this plot, city-wide riots break out, culminating in the assassination of three of the four tetrarchs by a still-unknown individual. Days later, the fourth is found to have died under suspicious circumstances, his demise publicly attributed to suicide.
A group of community leaders and activists assert a new representative-democratic government in Cethandir and instate themselves as a temporary council to govern through the transition until polls are held. Confronting the destruction of Vay Proper by the God Machine and the secession of Caelus, this council organizes a vote to determine whether Cethandir should stay in the Federation. The majority of urban voters vote to stay, but the vast majority of voters from the rural outlying lands of Cethandir vote to leave. The council of community leaders chooses to allow Cethandir's rural outlying territory to secede while urban Cethandir remains. Rural Cethandirans promptly choose to join New Xalotl.
The New Federal administration abolishes the class system with the ratification of Proposition 19.
