Archmage
A title that used to bestow political power unto the mage who held it. They were considered to be the chief counselor to the King of Argon, only the King held more power. Archmages had the authority to speak with the King's voice and hold court in his absence. Archmages also held power in the military, responsible for overseeing magical battalions of soldiers. Archmages were chosen by the King and would often be friends of the king, notable members of the magical community, or heroes of the realm that had proved themselves right for the position.
After Cyr I killed the Sorcerer King the position was vacant for nearly 700 years, until it was bestowed on the current Archmage, Boifre Redovid. It carries none of its former power or weight, instead is used to give the mages of Argon a figurehead in the Argonian government.
Responsibilities
The position used to be a chief counsel in the King's court, now it holds no power other than recognition of magical ability and the influence the individual possesses in the mage community.
