Gobnin
Gobnin is the Aran god of smithing, fire and the forge. It is said that is was Gobnin himself that first taught the dwarves their smithing skills. In the Creation myth, he tried for forge earth using fire and accidentally created volcanoes.
Divine Domains
Gobnin's major domains cover fire, smithing, and the forge. Those trying to appease volcanoes may make offerings to Gobnin. He has a large following among dwarves and blacksmiths. He is further associated with craft and skill, particularly involving transformation of materials. As such he's a patron deity of carpenters, builders, artisans and cooks. Some masons leave his marks in their carved stones, alongside Duantis - deemed a very closely connected and friendly deity. Gobnin is said to be the only deity to be on friendly terms with Duantis.
His association with fire connects him with the hearth and therefore some believers associate him with the home, and protect their doorways or mantlepieces with his emblem.
Gobnin is also seeing a recent rise in followers in the wake of the development of machinery and engineering by Artificers, who view him, alongside Ormad, as a patron deity.
Divine Symbols & Sigils
Gobnin's major symbol is a crossed hammer and tongs - a symbol so well recognised in Ara it has almost become synonymous with the concept of industry, particularly dwarven industry. Some sects differentiate themselves by varying the type of sword or hammer used. Other professions may invoke him by using alternative tools.
His association with fire also sees various depictions of flames to represent him, particularly in Alagria.
In dwarven runes, he is represented as a triangle with an inverted triangle above it - representing his similarity and different to Duantis.
