Jubilex
Jubilex is an Elder Oblex that is confined to a powerful artefact, the Wand of Jubilex. This oblex is a psychic ooze that traps the knowledge and memories of those it ingests. It can create simulacrums of those on whom it has fed. The simulacrums it created are connected to its main body with tendrils of slime that can be up to 120 feet long. It is a spellcaster that can cast detect thoughts at will.
In the lost elven city of Yaana Tal’Nelde, there is a temple dedicated to the Triple Goddess, which was built atop an ancient and cursed shrine to Juiblex, the Demon Prince of slimes and oozes who seeks to devour all life, in an effort to suppress its evil. In the central chamber of the third level, dedicated to Sehanine Moonbow, there lay an injured elven warrior, his hair white from age. His breath short, burned by an attack from a firebolt or similar spell. His lower half caked in the same grime and muck that seems to be rising from the floor below. He claims to be the last surviving guardian of this temple, but he is not what he seems.
However, the real Dayereth died a long time ago and this manifestation is the sulfurous impersonation by Jubilex, who lurked nearby. This is how the Thanes of Order first encountered Jubliex. The evil of the shrine shrine below had attracted many oozes to this location, and their invasion is what ultimately destroyed the Leith’Missien.
The oblex has lingered here for decades, waiting for someone to penetrate the temple’s defences. Having ingested many of the temple’s defenders, it knows the layout of the temple, including all traps and short cuts, allowing it to move around with ease. It also knows about the false wand that the elves installed in the shrine to act as a decoy.
The first humanoids it has encountered in several hundred years were the Obliviati, led by Clavis Interitus, but it saw through their ruse and attacked. As such, the oblex did not share its knowledge with them.
Jubilex seduced Jed Kingsdown into bonding with the Wand of Juiblex so that its horror could be set loose upon the world once more.
By asking the party what they would do with the artefact within, the oblex learnt that whilst most of them sought to contain/destroy the wand, Jed was willing to use it to fight the greater evil. It also learnt that Petryan was the main opponent to Jed doing this. Telepathically it communicated with each of them. Firstly, it deceived to Petryan, telling him that if was safe for Jed to take any magical item except the wand, which it knew to be a decoy. It then separately informed Jed of the decoy wand and revealed to him that the true artefact was concealed towards the back of the shrine and resembled a twisting ornament made of greenish-yellow glass. In the end, the Obliviati escaped with the convincing decoy wand, which was a powerful +3 Wand of the War Mage, and Jed bonded with the Wand of Juiblex.
Jed Kingsdown later ultimately succumbed to the curse of the wand and was transformed into an Elder Oblex. The party were able to destroy the creature, freeing Jed’s soul. The Thanes of Order later traded the Wand of Jubilex to Duke Dagsdy in return for the resurrection of Jed Kingsdown. Its current location is unknown.
