Goldfoot

The Goldfoots are one of the Old Families directly responsible for the founding of Arbor. Following the Great Exodus, they brought with them a unique expertise in metallurgy. The Goldfoot ancestors were seasoned miners, skilled in extracting valuable minerals from the earth and transforming them into essential tools and items. During the early days of Arbor, much of their mining efforts were focused on producing nails and basic tools used in crafting shelters from the mighty Great Tree Bark.   However, as Arbor evolved, the Goldfoots harnessed both the bountiful resources of the Great Tree and the exceptional minerals unearthed beneath its vast canopy. This synergy between nature's bounty and the treasures from the earth has solidified the Goldfoots' enduring influence and prestige. In contemporary times, the family stands divided, with the once-legendary Iron Hands Company splintering into two distinct entities: the Iron Hands and the Davey Lamps.
"Arbor may be built of wood and brick, but it's held together by nails and bolts mined and forged by the Goldfoots." - Wila Goldfoot

History

As one of the Old Families and the only Korrigan within these esteemed lineages, the Goldfoots have played an instrumental role in the founding, development, and ongoing influence of Arbor. Across the centuries that span Arbor's rich history, you'll invariably find a Goldfoot somewhere within its organizational structure, often offering insights on how to extract more iron, coal and gold from the earth beneath the city.   In the early days, the Goldfoots were humble miners and blacksmiths, diligently unearthing valuable resources from the depths and fashioning them into practical tools. Many of these tools played a pivotal role in retrieving the early pieces of Great Tree Bark from the Great Tree itself. Gradually, with their complete ownership of the subterranean mines beneath Arbor and their mastery of smelting and forging, the Goldfoots solidified their place among Arbor's elite.

Creation of the Artifex

Embedded within the annals of Goldfoot history lies the creation of the Artifex, although the initial credit for their invention goes to Dora Maxwell her name has mostly been forgoten. The Goldfoot name, however, has become synonymous with the inception and adoption of these remarkable constructs among Arbor's elite. At the helm of the Goldfoot family during this period was Marcellus Josiah Goldfoot, a man driven by an unwavering purpose to leave an indelible mark upon the world—a legacy that would endure through the ages.

Modern Era

Maintaining supremacy over the centuries is no small feat, especially when family dynamics come into play. Yet, for a staggering 18 centuries, the Goldfoots managed this extraordinary feat, fending off would-be usurpers, thwarting attempted takeovers, navigating unfavorable marriage arrangements, and even facing internal discord on occasion. This remarkable era, however, came to an end with the birth of the twins, Wila and Wenret Goldfoot.   Initially, many assumed that the twins would jointly manage the family's vast business interests, perhaps overseeing distinct domains according to their individual interests. They were inseparable, as close as siblings could be. However, discord crept into their relationship, leading to public bickering and even physical altercations. Upon their mother's passing, her will decreed that each twin should take charge of half the business, exercising autonomy over their respective domains.   Yet, a proviso in the will stipulated that each sibling must allocate resources to support the other's venture, fostering the continued survival of the entire enterprise. This clause was intended to heal the growing rift between them. Nevertheless, the two Goldfoots have continued their feud, and they haven't been seen conversing with each other for years. Moreover, rumors circulate about an impending internal strife within the Goldfoot family, potentially escalating into open warfare.

Socio-Economic Status

The Goldfoots as an entity are one of the most powerful families in all of Arbor and as such are something of, as close as it comes in Arbor, to nobility. They own huge amounts of land and the means of producing some of Arbor's greatest technical wonders through their stranglehold on the ore and smelted metals. However due to the current in fighting between the siblings some of their vast fortunes have begun to dwindle. Perhaps there will come a day when the Goldfoot family is but a footnote in the history of Arbor, for now though they reamain one of the welthiest families in all the city.
