The Nest
A safe haven for those who take to the skies or find sleeping on the ground uncomfortable. That is what is provided by the Nest. Those of the Avian variety can find living among those without feathers difficult particularly when it comes to sleeping. Beds, even those made with accommodations for wings can cause a great deal of discomfort and nothing truly beats a good roost. This is part of the Nest's purpose but it's not it's only one and in fact i simply a side benefit for the community that has blossomed in this space.
"I came for a place to sleep, I stayed when I met my wife"- Unknown Avian
Appearance
The Nest is a constructed and carefully carved out settlement within the city of Arbor. It persists across the cliff face in Arbor meaning parts of it cross from the Twigs, the Third Ring and even into the Second Ring. From the outside it looks like a series of doors carved into the cliff side though there are several wooden platforms or landing pads along the way. In addition to these landing pads there are several ladders and in the Second Ring portion a few elevators that ferry those who cannot fly up to their homes in the cliff face. On the outer walls of the cliff are many decorations painted stone around entryways and even some small murals merely depicting the beauty of the world around them.Demographics
The vast majority of the Next is occupied by the Avians of the Beastkin, though for those who have developed friends or family even non-Avians may find a home living amongst them though they are quite rare. In addition to domiciles there are a number of markets along and inside the cliff face the largest of which is a huge open cavern in the cliff face that can be seen from anywhere in the Second Ring.History
The Avians have always felt more at home off the ground with their heads firmly in the clouds since the inception of Arbor so have always endeavored to live along the cliff edge or near the top. However this was at odds with what the ruling class desired. At one time the Nest wrapped around the entire basin up to the Silver Leaf Lake though over time much of this space has been deemed unsafe or unfit for habitation by either The Silver Council or The Order of the Fallen Leaves. The residents of the Nest have been displaced multiple times to make room and make sure the correct decorum is maintained in a given area. Or at least that's what those who move them keep saying. In truth maintaining a clear separation of those with money and those without has always been the goal and continues to be it probably won't be long until they are forced out of the Second Ring as well.Points of Interest
- The Glittering Halls
Companies Present
Only a few companies hold any sway high up along the cliff face, The Green Cloaks who attempt to harass and harry the residents who live there likely at the behest of interested parties trying to get rights to mine the Glittering Halls. The Silver Council who is likely doing the same and finally The Red Wings. The Red Wings are likely the only thing keeping other companies from moving in and taking what they want from the residents though they can hardly be called good and as is with most things in Arbor there are many shades of grey. They extort money from the residents all the while doing other nefarious things in the shadows.
