Auto-Scribe
... a spell for the most stalwart scholar! Record-keeping has never been easier!
"Now I just need to let the ink dry."
An Auto-Script spell enchants parchment and pen to inscribe the Caster's words in permanent ink. An animated pen or quill etches the Caster's words. Skilled Casters use Auto-Scribe to write or draw impressive designs while performing other tasks.
Spell Manifestation
As the caster finishes the incantation, she releases her hold on the pen. It springs to life, scratching across the page in swift strokes. Her spoken words take shape, rendered in ink. In mere moments, its' movements began to slow as it returned inert, a script complete.
Animated Pen, Sleepy Scholar
Primary Spell Effect
The Auto-Scribe spell enchants a loose sheet of parchment and a utensil to inscribe the words of the Caster onto a blank page. The Caster is able to create designs, change fonts and colors, and perform revisions during the spell effect.
By speaking, the Caster's words are recorded on paper. If not speaking directly to the page, the Caster may covertly write their message telepathically, requiring more concentration. Special ink or paint can also be used for additional effects.

Casting an Auto-Scribe Spell
This spell creates 1 Spell Stack on the Caster, 1 on the paper, and 1 on the quill. If the Caster loses their Spell Stack, the items become disenchanted. While Auto-Scribe is in effect, the Caster can release it from the Spell Stack. Auto-Scribe's Effect Duration is 10 Minutes +2 Per Psych Modifier. The Caster initially makes a Focus Proficiency Check against a DC 10. Add +3 to the DC for each relevant distractions. The Caster makes new Focus checks at the beginning of each new minute, writing 30 Words per Psych Modifier. If the Caster chooses to cast this spell without vocal components, the DC increases by 5. A failed Focus check can be attempted once more while Auto-Scribe is on the Stack; given no distractions, the Caster can "take 10" for 10 Minutes of work.
If the Caster chooses to use Auto-Scribe to draw an image or include designs, an additional Artistry Proficiency check is made at the same DC.
Secondary Spell Effect
A clever application of an Auto-Scribe spell allows the Caster to transcribe what they hear or see. While the Auto-Scribe spell can't be used to craft forgeries, it can be used to quickly inscribe notes. In addition, Auto-Scribe can be used to draw upon a canvas. The Caster may use their artistic ability to render images instead of written words, but they must concentrate closely and use artistic aptitude to achieve the desired result.
Another use for the Auto-Scribe spell can be used during Auguries to transcribe the message, or it can be used right before a Caster initiates REM sleep, capturing their dreams for later study. This use often requires a Contingency to capture the dream.
At 5th Caster Level and every 5th Caster Level after, increase the base duration of Auto-Scribe by 5 Minutes. In addition, add two extra parchment. Auto-Scribe can now be used in the crafting of magical Scrolls or Tomes.
Auto-Scribe can be used in other Spell-Craft checks to Enchant magical items.

History & Invention
The Auto-Scribe spell was historically central to magical documentation. Its initial application was limited, but it found use in crafting the Arcs of the Arcanum. Basic enchanted items like pens, quills, and paper enhanced by Auto-Scribe became accessible to novice enchanters. Scriveners are common tools for scholars, evolving into a rapid industry of magical publication using Auto-Scribe.
Over time, this automation evolved into the E-S-C (Enchanter’s Source Code), a structured language enabling precise, programmable enchantments. Originally pioneered by Macromancers, E-S-C quickly spread across other magical domains, offering Casters the ability to embed layered functions into documents and objects alike. Many Casters have written magical tomes with Auto-Scribe.
