Copaleila is a Draconic phrase which translates to "Cove by the Leyline". Located to the South-West of the Ar'Dracadian continent, Copaleila Bay is a favored tourist attraction for its warm coastal waters. Connected to the Thrashir- Rajir Strait, Copaleila Bay is near the equator, as it enjoys a breezy tropical climate all year long.
Great moss-covered stones jut from the seas on the approach to Copaleila; seasonal storms, weather conditions, and the pull of the moons affects the tides, often revealing long stretches of sand where boats and ships may run aground. Fortunately for the citizens of Copaleila Cosmo, strong tsunamis and hurricanes have often been deflected by the range of underwater mountains that have risen around the bay.
As one of the most popular coastal tourist attractions in the world, Copaleila Bay is reknowned for splendors that remind the varied peoples of Copaleila Cosmopolis how magical their world truly is! Lantern Surfing, Ancient Dracadian aqueducts, magical rivers and marshes- Copaleila Bay is deeply rooted in the magic of the land and sea.
Geographic & Climate
Copaleila Bay exits near the Thrashir-Raejir Strait; as it opens to the Thrashir Sea, the currents swiftly change direction, leading boats and ships through to the Raejir Sea. Copaleila Bay tends to have extreme dry and wet seasons. During torrential storms, both seas crash against the giant stones that rise from the ocean. Travel tends to favor the dry seasons, as stormy conditions make access to Copaleila Bay difficult without trained guides or Verdamancers.
The islet rocks that make the Sea-Dragon's Fangs are made of a special form of limestone, known as Dusk Stone. The rock takes on a pinkish hue during the waning hours of the day. There are also days when the 2nd Moon's tidal effects prevent sea-faring travel for some time as the land that lies beneath the ocean is revealed by the light of the 2nd Moon. Dusk Stone is composed of the same mineral which makes the Neon Moon glow when it passes between Pathon and the Pale Moon.
The inland enjoys sun and shade from the mossy stones that make the Sea-Dragon's Fangs. On the other side of the rocky islets, the ocean leads into Copaleila Cove. Following the cove by a mile leads to expansive beaches and saltmarshes. The cove can be accessed from the bay, but locals only use small vessels for traveling the narrow waterways. Colalei Jungle is connected to the coastal beaches by a stretch of mystic marshland, where spirits are said to chase the winds.
Another geographical feature nearer Copaleila Cove is a beach studded with oblong rocks and boulders known as the "Dragon's Eggs". These small mounds are actually Dragon Turtles, slumbering beneath the warm sands. Camouflaged by the rocky outcropping, denizens of Copaleila Cosmo are warned not to intrude the Dragon's Eggs. It is considered an area of Conservation, protected by Copaleila's Laws.
Flora & Fauna
Various terrains support all manner of aquatic fish and amphibious reptilian life, making Copaleila Bay a marina of exotic specimens. Common forms of sea-birds and crabs, turtles, bivalves and ammonites, as well as lizards and salamanders all make their homes near the cove and marshlands. Of the species of sea-birds, the Aosprey is a unique specimen only found near Copaleila's coastlines.
The Aosprey tends to remain around the Bay, Cove, and Saltmarsh areas; as a diurnal bird, it spends most of the long day hunting and diving near the Ribbon Reef. While many fish and Aquan species gather near the coral reef, a type of bivalve, known as the Lei-Lei Clam, is reputed for producing magical pearls, known as Lei-Lei Pearls.Aosprey

Mode: Aeri-aquan
Order: Accipitriforme
Diet: Piscivore
Type: Avian
Genus: Pandion
Species: P. plinaurviAosprey are capable of preceiving Auras, using this ability to hunt their favored prey: fish. Agile swimmers, the Aosprey radiates a violet Aura in flight; when it dives into water, rainbows appear.
The pearls produced by Lei-Lei Clams have affinities to spells and magical effects which channel "Water" Source energies. As a defense mechanism, the Lei-Lei Clam is said to spit a pearl like an underwater bullet. These hard pearls are incredibly difficult to break.Lei-Lei Clam
These clams can also be found around the Outer Banks; a salt marsh area that is connected to an expanse of beach known as "Dragon Eggs." A protected environment, Dragon's Eggs is the home of the ancient birthing grounds of the Drakis Shale- otherwise known as the Dragon Turtle.
Once extinct, the sanctuaries for modern Dragon Turtles, such as Dragon's Eggs, are now protected by both Draconic Empires, and those found harming a Dragon Turtle within a preserve are fiercely punished (often executed outright). Dragon Turtles spend much of their life in a state of dormancy, emerging to feed and breed for sometime before returning to age-long slumber. Their shells resemble moss-covered boulders as they rest on beaches and in the shade of palms. Rousing a Dragon Turtle from its deep sleep can have negative effects on its health.Dragon Turtle
Local Phenomena
There are 2 days within the year, appearing on the Spring and Autumnal Equinox, where the light of the sun shines upon the waves of the longest days of the year. Near the evening and into the night, a spectacular event occurs. Known as the "Sea-Dragon's Flame", a Leyline appears visibly within the waves, lighting up the coast in ethereal light. People travel from all over the world to observe this spectacular phenomenon.
This magical energy is known as the Aqueous Leyline, or the Geo Source of Water. It is believed that in Pathon's ancient past, when the Gates still stood, Copaleila Bay was the site of one of the Water-Gates. Though there has been no archaeological evidence to support this, the presence of the Leyline supports this theory.
People come from all over the world during the emergence of the Sea-Dragon's Flame. It courses through the city's waterways and into the cove, where it heads deep into the Outer Banks before disappearing once more. Specialist Hydromancers are known to come to the bay to observe this magical phenomenon. It is a rare opportunity to see the relationship between magic and Caster; as they draw energy from the Leyline, the tendrils of Ley will react to the channeling of Water magic, visibly infusing the spell or Caster with it's energies.
There is a certain theory with Hydromancers that the Sea-Dragon's Flame could be hiding a powerful Geomancy Omphalos. Ancient Diviners knew the secret, but since then, it has been lost to time. None can explain why this event occurs on the longest days of the year, but one thing is certainly agreed: it is a miraculously inspiring event, to see the "blood of the planet" flowing like liquid fire beneath the sea.
History: Copaleila Bay
During the Saurian Era, Copaleila Bay was a destination for migratory Dragon Turtles. It is believed that Dragon Turtles were much more active then, as fossil remains have been found en route towards Copaleila's beaches. Before the continent was split, the migratory pattern of Dragon Turtles circled the Western Hemisphere year-round, with some moving across the ocean towards the East.
During the Dracadian Era, after the world was divided, Brass Dragons settled near the region of Copaleila Bay. The Brass Dracadian Barons settled their Demesne inside Colalei Jungle. They built the great Aqueduct which runs the course of the cove and into Outer Banks. The water is filtered through a network of underground aquifers. Special filtration, with specimens such as Lei-Lei Clams, provides clean water.
As they built their city at the edges of Colalei Jungle, clean water was essential for the Brass Dragons. The Aqueduct runs towards the Colalei Jungle, where it deposits at Cola Town into a reservoir, which is recycled and sent back towards the Jungle through an underground network of pipes. It wasn't long before the Brass Dragon's discovered the Sea-Dragon's Flames, which would inevitably lead to the expansion of Copaleila Cosmo.
After a stormy season that flooded Cola Town (a refuge for the Dragon's workers and laborers), the Drakkan vassals of the Brass Dragons moved closer to the Bay. Immediately, the Drakkan architects and engineers began rebuilding Cola Village, which is now Copaleila Cosmopolis. Cola Town was also rebuilt and still exists at the end of the river that touches the Outer Banks.
Copaleila Cosmopolis is now the hub of the Thrashir-Raejir Strait. Ships from all over visit Port Cola, creating opportunities for trade and commerce. Home to Drakkan, as well as Humans and Sijinn, the tradition of fishing continues to bring these peoples together in a rich culture of maritime pleasures. Boats are often docked around the marina and sea-food is bountiful. Surfing, rowing, and swimming are all fun and safe activities for the population of Copaleila Cosmopolis.
Copaleila Bay features over 200 different species of flora and fauna, with 10% of those native and unique to the bay and Colalei areas. The people of Copaleila and the Colalei regions continue to live in harmony with the land and the sea.
