The Kingdoms of the Verge
Little is known of the reclusive kingdoms of the mountainous, and often volcanic, lands that comprise the Verge.
Some stories paint them as little more than barbarian states that strike out across the Agate Sea to raid the more civilized lands of Horizon. Others claim that they harbor deep riches and wonders that they jealously guard from outsiders.
What is known about the people of the Verge is that they must be incredibly resilient in order to survive. What land isn't covered in permafrost is geologically unstable. Hot springs, geothermal vents, and volcanos pepper the land; providing both small bastions of safety for pockets of civilization but also inherent risks of eruptions. The Verge is also home to equally dangerous creatures. Folklore and myth from this region is inundated with tales of dragons, giants, yetis, and even more sinister creatures like cabals of vampires, frozen wights, and more.
The Verge was also the last line of defense for The Logios Empire as The Antecean Empire waged a war of conquest against them. Antecea stopped their assault in the Clymmian Foothills and remnants of the Logios people persisted beyond the veil of mountains that separated the Verge from Kentro. It is likely that at least some of their culture and influence has persisted into the modern age.
After the events of The Extinction War, many kingdoms of the Verge were given the opportunity to step into the spotlight and aid with reconstruction. Suddenly, the Verge was a source of building materials in snow and steel as well as luxury goods like exotic pelts and precious metals/gems.
