Suri Ba'Hadir

Suri had an odd expression on her face as she walked around the sarcophagus, taking in the illustrations, before stopping at the side of it. She gingerly laid her hands on the edge of the lid, and closed her eyes.

“It's strange,” she said. “When I was younger, I wanted the whole world to end, you know. I hated everyone and everything. But I feel… I feel connected to this woman. We share a story. The Khemmemu Dynasty tried to erase Sachara and the Fireblooded and everything my ancestors did to protect this world, just like Nicolas and Jacob tried to erase me. But somehow, we're both still here. And so is Archemi.”

— Warsinger, Ch. 53.

"Cutthroat! You big dumb bitch! What the fuck d'you think you're doin’?!"
— Suri, Constantly.
Suri is one of the central characters in the The Archemi Online Chronicles.

If the Ryuko Digital Refugee Program represents the best that technology has to offer humankind, then Suri's presence on Archemi is a reminder that technology by itself is neither good nor evil - it can be either, depending on who utilizes it.   Suri's data is the bootleg of a copy of a real, unknown Pacific Alliance citizen acquired under murky circumstances by the UNAC Armed Forces. Her dataset was used for multiple experiments in the military, where it was illegally copied by a conscripted intelligence officer, Nicolas Belkov. Nicolas took the data with him when he moved on from the military and became a senior developer on the Archemi Project's ATHENA Database. While Archemi was in alpha, he and his partner in crime, Jacob Ratzinger, reserved a small personal sandbox on Archemi to gratify their violent sexual fantasies. Suri was one of several unfortunate women to be uploaded to this private playground - the Al-Asad Prison in Dakhdir.   Suri's early life in Archemi was harrowing. With no memory of who she was, so recollection of Earth, and no knowledge of the world beyond Al-Asad's subterranean walls, she believed herself to be an orphan born inside of the prison. Like all prisoners in the facility, she was functionally an NPC, albeit one with no ability to gain levels take even a basic Path. As a result, Suri became a master of prison life: fighting to eat, fighting to survive, and fighting to stay sane under the continuous abuse of the 'Wardens', Nicolas and Jacob.   When the Shard housing Archemi's servers was destroyed by a direct nuclear strike, the game rebooted from the orbital server system and removed the stop-gap developer restrictions on leveling and Path acquisition. Suri suddenly discovered that she was able to gain EXP and choose a profession: and as soon as she figured out the system, she and several others began to plan their escape. Suri began a brutal fitness regime, power-leveling her stats, and fought to kill in brawls until she was strong enough to escape. She and other members of her prison gang faction dug their way out into the sandworm-haunted ruins that surrounded Al-Asad. However, she discovered that not everything about her awakening as a Starborn was normal. She could not set her own respawn point: if she died, she respawned in her prison cell no matter what actions she took to avoid doing so.   Suri managed to escape on her second attempt, emerging near an oasis. She joined a caravan of nomads as a wagon guard and left with them for the capital of Dakhdir, the city of Dalim. There, she fell in with an underground fighting syndicate, the Dhul Fi'quar, and quickly gained a reputation as a ferocious gladiator. However, the grind of surviving as a Fireblooded outcast in Dalim and seemed little better than prison to her, so after only a few months, she left Dalim and headed north to Vlachia to seek her fortune.   A physically imposing woman with a natural gift for leadership, Suri is a courageous warrior and possesses an incredible drive to live and thrive. Despite her difficult past, she does not feel sorry for herself and does not tolerate pity from others. Despite her determination to move on, she did not escape entirely unscathed: Suri suffers from phobias and PTSD related to her time in Al-Asad. She endures this with a stoic acceptance that she cannot change the past, and seeks to create a better future for herself and others.   As of Warsinger, Suri has found friends and comrades in Karalti, Rin, Istvan and Vash, an understanding and gentle partner in Hector Park, and is discovering a greater purpose than simple survival in the defense of Vlachia. She has a special relationship with Cutthroat, who is her Bonded Mount as of Kingdom Come.
