Birchland

Geography

Birchland is a small rectangular wooded region north of Solaki that borders the Shadowglade to the west, the Colorless Hills to the north, and the East Ocean to the east. True to its name, most of the land is covered in a sparse birch forest that becomes denser near the river. Birch River flows from the north and curves to the east, pouring into the Emerald Gulf. Birchland contains a handful of small villages and two major cities: Fallweave and Pearl Cove.   Where Solakians value honor and order, Birchlanders value freedom and wealth (mostly the latter). The main central town of Fallweave is run by a small council of wealthy aristocrats, and both Fallweave and the nearby villages are protected by their hired agents. Much of Birchland's economy comes from Pearl Cove, a central hub for oceanic travel and the largest port city in the world. Not all business that occurs in Pearl Cove is on the level, however- smugglers and pirates are known to walk among honest sailors and businesspeople.

Demographics

Birchland, especially Pearl Cove , contains a wide variety of races. About half of Fallweave and its council are dwarves.   Most hired agents, adventurers, and mercenaries fight with weapons, but every party has at least one mage. All kinds of travelers looking for adventure and riches can be found passing through Pearl Cove.
