The Shadowglade

Geography

Melted snow and rainwater flow southward from Archestria's equatorial belt of mountains. A large quantity of this water convenes on its way to the ocean, forming a massive swamp known as the Shadowglade. The glade is funneled by a series of hills on each side. Beyond the hills are the Bazen Lowlands and Scorch Alley to the west, and Birchland and Solaki to the east. Its northern edge is a section of forest in the The Haunted Realm, and its southern mouth belches murky water into the South Ocean.
A long road formed of raised wooden platforms spans across the middle of the swamp, providing passage between the east and west sides. This road, simply called the Boardwalk, has a rule: anyone crossing it who discovers damage or instability among its planks is responsible for maintaining it. Unfortunately, well-meaning folk aren't always able to identify or fix problems they come across, and not everyone takes the time to uphold the rule, so the Boardwalk is full of molded boards and holes. Caution is recommended when crossing with mounts or vehicles.
A single farming village called Umberton is stationed upon a relatively dry hill near the center of the swamp. Umberton is independent and is not part of either neighboring kingdom.
Straying from the Boardwalk can be dangerous; many orc and lizardfolk clans wander the glade in wild areas. These clans have been known to attack and pillage other humanoid travelers.

Demographics

Umberton is the main humanoid populace in the Shadowglade, and its population consists mostly of humans and half-orcs. Some half-orcs and orcs make camps in other places throughout the glade, and lizardfolk villages are somewhat common in the wild.
Ranged combat styles are favored due to reduced mobility in the swamp.
