Magic Item Crafting Rules
Some magic items can be crafted by spending magic components found in Archestria. The recipe for a given item is listed in the Magic Item Values document. Items without recipes cannot (yet) be crafted.
Common Components
- Archestrylene: silvery magic ink that can be mined
- Primal crystals: magic crystals with varying properties
- Spirit branches: enchanted wood from the Spirit Tree
Other Components / Prerequisites
- Cast a spell. Some magic items require a spell to be cast once.
- If you can't cast the spell but can otherwise craft the item, you can ask another player character to cast the spell for you. They must spend 1 downtime day toward the item's downtime cost.
- If the spell is available as a spellcasting service in Salmund, you can pay the cost to have it cast.
- You can consume a spell scroll containing the spell to cast it on the item (without requiring a check).
- Tool proficiencies. Many items require a relevant tool proficiency, though the tool choice is often flexible.
- Example: a cloak that requires "weaver's tools or similar" could reasonably be made with leatherworking tools instead, resulting in a leather-based version of that cloak. Potter's tools would not be a valid alternative; you can't make a cloak out of ceramic.
- When crafting an item, you may pay the cost of the strange material bonus property to change the item's material, potentially enabling different tool proficiencies to be used. A carpenter could create a magic wooden sword at an increased cost.
- Please use honest judgement as to whether your tool proficiency makes sense for the item. If you don't have one that works, ask another PC to make it for you. They must spend the downtime cost, but can use components provided by you.
- Monster parts. If you're hoping to build an item that requires a certain monster to appear, you can try the following:
- Plan a mission that involves hunting that creature (can be an addendum to a smaller mission). If your character is too high of a level to bother with a weaker monster, they might commission lower-level characters to go on the hunt instead.
- Search nearby marketplaces during a mission. Tarvinkor and Sitraz are especially known for their item-diverse markets.
- Inform the DM of your intent to build that item, so that the monster will be more likely to appear in your future adventures.
