Morningshade City

Morningshade City is the largest city in Solaki. This walled metropolis is named for the way it is covered by the shadow of the Suntouch Spires each morning. There are multiple districts, each more elevated and elegant than the previous. At its center is a walled neighborhood containing the noble manors, which are each owned by one of the ruling houses in Solaki.   Light and shadow are a popular theme throughout the city, even more so than the rest of Solaki. The city is full of statues, sculptures, and topiaries that cast shadow images at different times of day based on the sun's angle. The Hall of Lights is a world-famous art museum where everyone is encouraged to contribute one original glass ornament reflecting their life. Pottery and paintings love to personify the Suntouch Spires, depicting them as gods or mighty spirits that dictate when and where the sun is allowed to shine.

Government

Solaki has no central government; instead it is split into multiple fiefdoms owned by lords in noble houses. Morningshade City is unique in that it has its own central government run by an elected mayor. The noble houses have no direct power here, although they can sway some decisions with their influence.

Law & enforcment

Morningshade City's laws are fairly standard. The city's many artistic displays are guarded especially well due to their fragility and value to the city. The government employs a city guard that consists of two parts: a standard armed town watch, and a network of stealthy spies called the Eyes of Shadow who actively seek crime and corruption in order to root it out.   Honor and reputation are highly valued among the noble houses in Solaki. While each of them has more than enough money and influence to manipulate the government into doing their bidding, bribery and corruption are heavily frowned upon. Any involvement with a crime would immediately obliterate a house's reputability. This, combined with the threat of the watchful Eyes of Shadow, has created a stable government safe from the competitive noble houses.
