Mesian Monarchy

Traditionally, Mesia is ruled by a monarch drawn from the lineage of lektoi. The monarchy passes from parent to eldest child, but any sibling or first cousin of the heir can challenge this succession and claim the throne by besting the heir in single combat. The current monarchy also shares some semblance of power with the Grand General of the Mesian Army. The monarch shares day to day ruling power with his council, who usually are chosen from the elite of the city of Mesia. They handle most of the governance, and a careful balance of power is made against the king. Poor kings are usually disposed of a combination of dangerous powerplays and challenges made against them.
